So I email Comshaft (Comcast) and asked about RFD-TV and this is the cryptic BS answer I get back:

<!-quote-!>quote:

Dear Mr. Munday,

Thank you for contacting Comcast Cable.

I understand you would like further information regarding the addition of RFD-TV to your Comcast channel lineup.

Our goal is to provide a wide choice of quality cable networks and local broadcast channels reflecting the diverse programming interests of our customers. In addition to requests from customers, the following factors play a part in our decision making process:

· FCC regulations, such as requirements to carry all local broadcast channels
· Requirement by local broadcasters to carry their affiliated cable networks
· The number of access channels required by local government
· Customer satisfaction with networks carried in other systems
· Customer satisfaction with similar networks
· Importance of the network to our diverse community
· Level of interest across a percentage of our customer base
· Per-subscriber programming fees charged by the network versus the value added to the line-up

(Digital Systems Only)
As you may know, we have been investing millions of dollars in new technology to increase the channel capacity of the system through digital technology. So an additional factor in launching new channels is whether or not a particular network is available in the digital format.

What this all means is that we take all requests for new networks very seriously, and that we carefully consider the overall impact of adding each network. While we cannot honor every request, we do take each request into consideration in planning future changes to the line-up.

Thank you for choosing Comcast.

Sincerely,

Demetria

In other words, if we have to pay for it or they won't barter programming, no we won't carry it.

I'd emailed RFD-TV and was told that Comcast was especially hesitant about carrying RFD-TV.

Anyone else on Comshaft?

I feel like starting an email campaign.

Switch to dish network and get it.

RFD-TV
Otherwise known as horse TV.
About the only thing you can count on seeing on RFD-TV is a show dealing with horses, Oh every now and than thay run a show about ag, and they seem to have a lot of auctions of cattle, and shows on "how to" but I find they have very little in the way of what I am intrested in watching and when they do have a show that I would like to watch it is on in the very early hours of the morning, like 4am or 5am.

Just my opion of RFD-TV

Lonny- RFDTv just ran a pretty neat blacksmithing series and I've watched quite a few old tractor shows there, but you are right - lotsa horsey stuff. You need a TiVo to catch the good stuff.
I get a laff out of Comc**t - they're running a series of ads here in Mid-Michigan on how unreliable satellite is - our power, phone, satellite all made it through the winds of the last two days, but our broadband was out for about 18 hours - yup, it's from our cable provider (admittedly not Comc**t, but anothe big provider in the area) - They said it was commercial power failure, but our power guys said "b*** s*** - they don't clean their right of ways , they let Mother Nature do it".

Yep.... I've had HORSE TV (RFD-TV) on My Direct TV dish for about 2 years.... Of the 168 hrs avail. per week 100 are horse/mule/cow shows, then there's about 40 hrs/wk. of the OLD Country music/polka reruns, 20 hrs of production AG related stuff like "AG Phd", "Louisianna Agriculture" etc., and about 5 hrs of religious programming Sunday morning......so the last three available hours are the black-smithing show, the train show, and a repeat of the JD Expo from NY State in 1992. Seems like they have INFO-mercials too..... for something TOTALLY non-ag related. It actually makes Reality TV seem interesting in comparison unless Your a Horse Person. The funniest thing was about 6-7 weeks ago JD bought 2-3 hours of air time hosted by Max Armstrong accepting call-in questions on JD's latest lines of tractors, financing, etc..... The Managers in charge of these programs at the Corp. level were the people answering the questions..... but MAX was the one who seemed to know the most about the programs....

Lonny
Don't know how you missed it but every Thur. 7 PM CST is Classic Tactors. On that show I've seen Mt Pleasent Old Threshers, antique and modern tractor pulls, Tractor Calendar etc.
You can print a 7 day schedule from their website for free.

Jerry,
A 7pm show every Thursday showing classic tractors is of no value to me as I start my work shift at 6pm.
I would think that on the weekends the programming would be better geared to meet the needs of the working class that happen to work evenings or overnight shifts, this is about the only time we have time to watch the TV and that is limited to the later hour of the evenings.
Just my opion.

We don't get RFD-TV here, but it does look better than most of the crap on cable here. Looking at their website makes it look interesting enough. The Virginia Farming website has an FFA chick standing in front of the "g", making the word "Farmin". EXACTLY how it is pronounced around here.

Geez I like what I see on RFD-TV, Big Joe's Polka Show, the Classic Tractor Show, Ag PHD, and This Week In Agribusiness. They are rebroadcast many times including the weekends. I don't see what you guys are bitching about, you remind me of a bunch of old coots at the local coffee shop sitting around sucking up coffee with all the answers to the worlds problems and no action.

What amazes me with RFD-TV programming is that I am still seeing the some of same dang shows that I watched in 2001 when Angel and I first got cable. Not complaining in a way only it makes me wonder if those programs got an "extra special" deal for broadcasting. After seeing what they wanted to show a filming of Plow Day just twice and then the thirteen week/twice a week special for $2500 per week, I wonder kind of deal those "re-reruns" are getting?
