Paint for a Original restoration.

I’m sure this topic comes up a lot. I’m going to restore a 1961 and want to know what folks use for paint. Both rattle can and quarts. I use Rustoleum on my Wheel Horses. I use a HVLP Gun and reduce with acetone and add hardener. Is there a close match Rustoleum product for both the white and yellow?

Canvas White looks the best to me for Rustoleum although others will tell you that Almond is closer. To my eye the Almond has too much "yellow" in it.
For the yellow, the closest in Rustoleum that I have found is Marigold. However, I do not believe they make it in a quart, only spray cans. Fortunately, for me, I have not needed to repaint very much of the yellow on my 122 so the spray can worked for my needs. Otherwise you may have better luck with Tractor Supply paints or if you want a real nice job get OEM from a Case/IH dealer.

Since you guys are into Rustoleum , I'll just shake my head and scroll along!

In my case, mine is a worker that's going to get scratched up and dented over and over again. Mine isn't a restore but I do like to protect it. So Rustoleum is a great solution and very easy to get as many stores in my small town carry it. Getting the real stuff either requires a couple hour trip to the nearest dealer or big bucks in shipping. So I will stick to Rustoleum as it meets my current needs. If I ever restore it I will use the good stuff.

I was a auto painter for many years and am no fan of Rustoleum paint... Rustoleum is a linseed based paint and is not very compatible with quality auto finishes.. Like charlie says use ironguard as it is much better quality and is compatible with reducer and hardener.. I use the paint in the quart as it seems to do a nicer and more long lasting job..

I am nearing the point of painting my 63 era CC. Either CC Specialipties or your local Case/IH dealer (Iron Guard) is the way I am going. Additionally CC Specialties, your supporting a member.

the iron guard paint from CIH is very good, whether a restore or just to touch up to keep and work. it may be a little more money, but worth it in the end. i painted my trailer i built w/it 20 years ago and very happy w/how it has lasted.
