I have a model 80 i just bought for $400 used it for about 2 hours this mourning and ran it out of gas i put more gas in it and now it will not start. i checked and it is getting spark any information you provide will be greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Dave

I'm bettin you sucked some gunk into the carb.
Pull the fuel bowl and or check the fuel filter if it has one.

When you take the fuel bowl off, flick the float up and down really easy and see if the gas flow starts.
If it does, lift it up and see if it stops.

ok so i pulled the carb off cleaned her all up put her back on and its throwings flames out the carb and the exhaust ..... what now b/c i dont want to screw this tractor up
thanks again

also theres a rubber hose running off of the block side of the carb it feels really soft does it need a clamp b/c there wasnt one on it

Dave , get your Fire Extinguisher ... & have it ready!

Replace hose & use clamps to secure...

ok well i found the problem the valve seat had come loose and it was keeping the intake valve from closing so i just rotaed the engine until the valve was fully open repostioned it then rotated the engine until the valve was closed enough to hold it in place then while rotating the engine very slowly i used a small wood block and hammer and tapped it back into place then with a little sand paper i cleaned up the burrs where the seat was hitting it fixed the problem but does anyone know why this happened

Dave, if you never heard of it, Marvel Mystery Oil has been around for decades. Seems to have positive results, especially for older engines of any type.

Vertical shaft B&S engines are pretty good at dropping valve seats for some reason. Those are supposed to be pressed into the block pretty tight; if all you did was tap it back in I would not be surprised if it came out again.

i am going to rip her down this winter and dress her up nice a pretty what do yall think is the largest motor she can handle because i dont want to tear up the hyrdostatic trans
Thanks again

IM NEW HERE I GOT A CUB CADET 482.DOES ANY ONE HAVE OR KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A DIAGRAM FOR THE 54 INCH DECK BELT OR BELTS THANKS FOR ANY HELP

Lee S --First off all, welcome to the forum

Second, your 482 is actually a Garden Tractor, and depending upon the serial number you should be posting on either the Main Forum or the MTD and CCC Forum Page, I'll let others with more knowledge tell you exactly where.

But to answer your question, I would try Parts Lookup, click on the logo at the top of the page, and choose Garden Tractors and you will see your model come up close to the bottom of the page, choose it, and then choose Attachments and you will see the mower decks that sold with your tractor. Unfortunately, the 54" deck isn't one of them, they list only the 38" and 44" decks. The 38" deck takes P/N 754-3001 (no length given), and the 44" deck takes P/N 754-3003 which is listed as 5/8" x 89 1/ --I think it was supposed to be 89 1/8 or 1/4 or something but the denominator is cut off.

The diagrams on Parts Lookup don't show how the belt runs, because the decks in question only have a central drive pulley. If you really have a 54" deck and it is one of those that takes one belt and runs it through all the pulleys (ugh!), I would re-post in the Main Forum because it sees a lot more traffic and attracts the attention of the most knowledgeable among us.

If you could take a picture of the deck, and post it, I'm sure someone can diagram where the belt should run.

Again, if you're trying to fit a deck that was not original equipment to a tractor, there can be a bit of trial-and-error. I've run a string around where I think it should go and taken that to the dealer, NAPA, Lowes, Tractor Supply and other places I can get belts.

Finally, there is also a 5-page listing of belts and their sizes for various tractors given on Charlie's FAQ page which is accessible from the main FAQ page which is also a click away at the top of the page.

Good luck!

Did ya miss this part?

IH Cadet lawn tractors

Lawn tractors include the 76, 80, 81, 111, 1100 and 182 thru 482 - pretty much if it has a B&S and a belt...

Well, I started to congratulate him for choosing the right forum, but when I went to Parts Lookup, the 482 came up under Garden Tractors, which was not where I expected to find it. As you can see from my posting below, I revised my classification in order to abide by MTD's classification of the 482 as a Garden Tractor.

So, yes, "I missed that part" which gives the forum's criteria for its Lawn Tractor classification: "pretty much if it has a B&S and a belt" and which is posted at the head of the Lawn Tractor forum section.

I THOUGHT I was checking my facts and getting them straight by checking to see how MTD classifies their own tractors, but I guess they didn't check with you first.

Perhaps we ought to emend the heading of the section to read something like, "The IH Cub Cadet Forum classifies the IH Models 76, 80, 81, 111, 1100 and 182 thru 482, pretty much if it has a B&S and a belt, as a Lawn Tractor, even though the manufacturer may classify them otherwise."

Or we could communicate to MTD what we think of their classifying the 1100 and the 482 as Garden Tractors, while the others on the forum's list (Models 76, 80, 81, 111, 1110, 182, 282, and 382) are all listed as Lawn Tractors.

I'm seriously not trying to mislead anyone, and I take your correction to heart. So, in the future, although I will direct new forum members to Parts Lookup, I will refrain from directing them to a Forum section.

But, given the fact that your classification of Lawn Tractors differs from MTD's, it begs the question of what their classification criteria are.

For instance, what is the difference between a Model 1100 (Garden Tractor per MTD; only the motor is depicted in Parts Lookup) and a Model 1110 (Lawn Tractor per MTD; actually a Push Mower is depicted on Parts Lookup)?

Jeremiah-
Someone at MTD wanted to see us run around like little ants under a magnifying glass trying to figure out what was going on, is my first guess. My second guess is that MTD screwed up (as usual).

I told my self I wouldn't say anything,,,but

my opinion of a garden tractor is a unit that was designed and can handle multiple implemnts and NOT just mower deck, snow blade, trailer, or leaf catcher...
This goes for all brands of tractors

Yep I believe the 482 built by IH falls into the IH lawn tractor topic

Key point here is the IH 482 was built by IH not MTD
