Hello, new member from S. Central Virginia. I just got a (late 70s?) 1250 Cub. I'm adding headlights and need help, if someone has this or similar model I'd like to run wires like factory had them.
Large ring terminal I assume ground and where does it go? Power my guess to push-pull switch, wired to one side ammeter? Was there a fuse?

Welcome, Fuddy! Kraig's pics show the lights are grounded under a hood hinge bolt, and the hole you identified is, indeed, for a fuse for the lights. But it doesn't uses a push/pull switch - that gray knob below the ignition key in Kraig's pic is a two position (off/on) rotary switch. And, yes, the power comes from the negative side of the ammeter, through a fuse and the switch.
 
Thanks so much! I should have looked at the instruction label below switches 🙄.
I see a couple switches for sale on ebay, knob style. There's a knock-out plug for the switch.
For the time being I'll probably install this push pull switch where fuse hole is, with fuse holder in line at power source. It looks like factory used 1/4" spade terminals on rotary switch posts.

Welcome aboard Gary. Yes on the 1/4" spade, in a insulated block. After you like the lights, you might consider going OEM on the switch. I would call factory switches "Severe Duty" as there is vibration in the tractor from drives, mowers, engine, plus being exposed to outdoor conditions and lots of dust at times. The factory ones are robust and pretty well sealed up. CCSpecialties has reasonable pricing on them that is pretty competitive for what you get.
 
Welcome Gary. I did the same conversion and added tail lights as well. The harness is already there for the rear lights. It’s under the tunnel cover and just plug into it. Usually bundled up there with the plug in end there. Nice looking 1250
 
Here's two more photos of my 1450 that might be helpful. I tried to get some of the wiring under the dash but there's too much in the way.

The lower right grill mounting bolts with wire clips (I'm not certain if the large ground wire is stock or if it was added by a PO?):

You got the Push-Pull switch so use it. However, make sure it pulls out without hitting the floorpan. Also keep in mind that switch will easily welcome in moisture. Internal contacts may fail on the short term with a garage or she'd kept tractor. I had a bucket load of off/pull/pull farther switches like the one you show. They lasted two years before I swapped out for a new one, opened up and cleaned the tarnished non working one.
