muffler tape on round muffler

i have a 100 that has a golf ball size hole in it and is kind of loud. since a swap looks like it would be a bear due to the condition of the pipe, i was thinking of doing a temporary fix and wrapping it with muffler tape to quiet it down until i tackle a proper fix. anybody done that with any kind of success?

It's a band-aid at best, might last a few hours. Be prepared to tackle the muffler replacement sooner than later. In the meantime, locate some ear protection.

"muffler tape"isn't any temporary fix or even a good patch! Throwing good money after bad imho!

What kind of muffler are you referring to? A 100 muffler should look like this. For a totally correct muffler, it would have a silver/galvanized finish.

sorry your correct i was thinking what my 102 has, i had to go outside and look at my 71 to see that one, which is 14.00 for repop and 24.00 for a oem Cub Cadet Parts International Harvester IH Cub Cadet CubCadet MTD CCC Parts

What kind of muffler are you referring to? A 100 muffler should look like this. For a totally correct muffler, it would have a silver/galvanized finish.

Didn't have a pic handy of just the muffler.

The factory 71 muffler was the same style as the 70, and Original muffler.
The 100 muffler is on the left (non-Kohler), and the O,70/71 is on the right. The Kohler replacement mufflers were painted black.

Here is a pic of an older O,70/71 muffler that came off an O. I sandblasted it, since it had surface rust on it.
