Good Morning,

I’m pulling apart a Model 70 and have the engine on the bench. I attached some photos below. The silver tag on the side is completely illegible. Can any of you experts ID this engine, or let me know if there are any numbers stamped elsewhere ? I would like to find a manual to check compression, or assist in the rebuild if it needs it. Also - what type of ignition is being used? It does have points.

A good source for parts would also be appreciated if you have any recommendations.

Thanks, Joe

Factory replacement engine- it is a K181. Based on the fact that the plug wire disappears into the engine, it has a magneto. Battery ignition would have been original to the tractor. The service and owner's manuals are a free download from www.kohlerengines.com.

Thank you for the response. I’ll have many more questions as this unfolds......I appreciate it.

Joe

Hi Joe , sorry for the delayed response. I have a model 70, see picture. It has a 7 hp Kohler with points. My serial number is 762849. Points are under a cap below and to the right of the muffler. I think I see it in your third picture.
