melted connection on on kohler cv 12.5

while replacing missing hardware on my mower, I noticed this connection. Is this something I Can say I never saw and ignore, Or is this a more serious issue? It connects to the shroud of the mower is that helps.

"IF"...it connected to shroud does it have 3 wires coming in to it? Are you sure it didn't connect to regulator? (small alum box shape) I may have forgot but isn't shroud plastic?

Liam, I still have a 12.5...that connector does in fact go to the reg.that changes the voltage and feeds the charging system ..located on lower Metal shroud

I would guess the cause to be the push on terminal became loose. Just put new push on terminals on each wire and get rid of the damage connector. Be sure to use insulated terminals.

As referenced in another recent post, these are Delphi-Packard 56 connectors and are readily available. Repair it correctly would be my suggestion.

Liam,it would be wise to check output of stator before you rewire to make sure that wasn't where the short was...

Dirty, cruddy corroded terminals is the culprit here causing high resistance which causes the heat/melted plastic issues.
Most wiring issues are condensation issues caused by outside storage and/or high humidity.

As referenced in another recent post, these are Delphi-Packard 56 connectors and are readily available. Repair it correctly would be my suggestion.

The 3-terminal connector in my kit is not configured like that. The Kohler part # for that is 25 155 41-S and readily available online.
