Hi guys... haven't been around for a while since my 2206 died and I went with a Gravely ZTR... but I've been looking for a replacement engine for the cub. I found a Kohler command pro 22.5 for around 750 & shipping (which is a site better than 12-1400.

I'm wondering if the 22.5 has the same footprint as the 20 and if it will be a drop in fit... same shaft size, key size... mounting boult locations

anyone know for sure ??

thanks
John

While the engine footprint is identical, you must understand the Kohler system with engines. Each series such as a Command 20 horizontal has many different specs, in fact there may be quite a few differences.
Some things, such as crankshaft diameter and length, as well as wiring harness are subject to these spec numbers. A Spec for a brand X may require a 1" x 3.125" crankshaft with a unique type harness, while a certain spec for say a 2284 cub cadet requires a different crankshaft dimensions and a 5 pin harness.

The Command twins have utilized over 100 wiring harness variations! Crankshaft dimensions are almost as varied, with some being snubbed off just past the seal, some with involute splines for hydraulic pumps, others with tapered cranks for gen-set or utv. app's as well as the straight shafts which accept the electric clutch. Some commands are fixed speed engines w/o a governor, some use an electronic governor while most have the mechanical governing system installed. Some Command twins are EFI, most are still using carbs. The latest EFI versions, with the Delphi EFI are actually a nice drop in for earlier carb engines, as all the EFI components are incorporated with the engine unit itself. These Delphi EFI Commands are very desirable!!!

Not trying to muddy the waters, just saying that you will need to compare the shaft dimensions as well as understand the wiring involved.
