I know someone out there knows all this info on an iPod.
So I want to get one and need to know which one you think is good, and what to stay away from.

Charlie-
I'm far from an expert, but it would probably help to know what you want to use it for. Are you planning on taking a lot of pictures with it? If so, you probably want to get the largest capacity one you can afford. If you're just using it to surf the web (AKA Check up to make sure Jeff isn't abusing Off Topic Friday) then a smaller capacity would probably work.

They aren't cheap, but Apple makes a very nice machine. I was given a similar unit, but non-Apple (Nokia) that is windows based by a good friend who works for Microsoft. It's fine for surfing the web, but the camera sucks! (Daughter's iPad takes amazing photos.)

Hope this helps push your search in the right direction...

I guess I should have been more specific.
MP3 player, Music only.

I had my last cell phone back in 85, that was enough for me.

If you're just looking for music, your cheapest option would be to just download iTunes (free) on whatever computer/laptop you normally use to yell at Kraig with and buy the tunes (not free) you want.

The ultimate cheapest option would be to download Pandora and have it "suggest" songs based on your search.

Or YouTube...

Charlie, I have a 5th generation, 32GB iPod Touch. I mostly use it for taking photos and surfing the web, I love it. My wife and daughter both have 5th gen, 64GB iPod Touches that they use mostly for playing music, texting, surfing the web and taking photos. I doubt either of them would part with theirs. They are great for streaming music via Bluetooth to the car radio or to players in the house. My daughter also has an older 180GB iPod Classic that is no longer available that she uses for playing music. I want to get the current 6th gen 128GB iPod Touch because my 32GB is full of photos and camera apps.

Charlie, Or....did you Mis-type and mean I-Pad and not I-Pod ?? Locomotiveman Tom

If you get an iPod, just be sure to get the largest one you can afford. (Memory size) it's amazing who quickly you will fill up space. Plus the OS just keeps getting bigger.

These days, an iPod is just a smart phone without the phone bits. But it will do everything else when on wifi (including make phone calls of you use a VoIP app.)

Other MP3 players work fine. The Microsoft ones have the next biggest support. If I just wanted a music player, I'd get an iPod because it will also play iHeart radio, Pandora, etc. for the days my music collection isn't good enough.

Sorry, when I first read this thread I guess I saw "iPad" not "iPod". My bad... I agree with Nick. Get the biggest you can afford.
