I am looking at buying a newer Cub cadet for mowing. what I'm wondering is some of the models I see sold at say TSC or some of the home building centers look to be lower end tractors I am not familiar with the newer models my knowledge is with the 1650, 782, 782D models. Some of the mowers coming up on auctions are LT1050, 2166, GT1554 and GT2523.

The main thing is I want a minimum 50" deck and it will only be used for mowing grass. So if there are any other models I didn't list say made in the last 5 to 10 years let me know what you think of them quality wise.

Mark: I can't find anyone familiar with the older machines that thinks much of the newer ones. The plastic parts are a real headache, and the machine, overall, just lacks the strength and simplicity of the older models. One fellow I know sold his newer one and kept his older 1512. If you want a new machine as rugged as your 782D's you'll have to step up to a compact tractor, in my honest opinion.

Mark,

I agree with others. The big box mowers simply do not compare the tractors you are familiar with. And let's be clear that those new model are LAWN MOWERS and the good old stuff are literally TRACTORS. It's like trying to compare 1/2 ton trucks to the newest crossover.

If you want to just mow your lawn, you get what you pay for. By the highest model you can. If you want to plow, till, etc... Stick with you current models.
