Upgrade Now2 years ago I bought my grandpa a new cub xt2. After his last mow of the season that year, he left the key on. That spring, his battery was obviously dead, but he had accumulated 3200 hours before the battery died! It had less than 40 before that winter.Could have accidentally left the key on. I had one that read 7800 hours..
That works out to 132 days, or roughly 19 weeks, or 4.7 months..2 years ago I bought my grandpa a new cub xt2. After his last mow of the season that year, he left the key on. We typically don't get our first chance to mow till mid May, and we are typically done mowing by mid September. Some years it's different, but that's the norm up here. And if you figure the Amp draw of the hour meter, and capacity of the battery, it didn't make it as long as it should have, but the winter cold probly zapped it prematurely. That works out to 132 days, or roughly 19 weeks, or 4.7 months..
While Kohler and Briggs aren't cheap, ONAN takes it to up another tier. IF you can find the parts, the rebuild on a vintage B48G 20HP Onan is crazy expensive. Just price a set of points and you'll see what path you're headed to.If you have paid for internal engine work or priced a repower,it is difficult to justify paying high dollar for high hours
You can always gold leaf it. Sorry couldn't resistValue is more like $650.
You can't polish a turd.
A blown head gasket will do some goofy things too. You can use an inline spark tester to see if the ignition module is working correctly. Before replacing it, I'd make sure that it is gapped correctly, and set it to the low end of the range given in the service manual.I think I may have an intermittent Ignition module. It doesn't idle great but is fine at full speed.
If I pull one plug wire it has little impact if I pull the other it stalls, swapped plugs same symptoms.
What else could that be?
Can't do that...plug wire is integral to the ignition module.Curt, did you swap wires also??
Last tune-up I did on my Onan a set of points & condensor was $160 for the parts and a little something for UPS. That's why it's been sitting since 2013. Been a couple successful Thermoking diesel engine transplants into 982's but I'd like to put an air-cooled Duetz in one. I think packaging would be better.the rebuild on a vintage B48G 20HP Onan is crazy expensive. Just price a set of points and you'll see what path you're headed to.
