Hello all, recently aquired a Cub 72, model number K301A . just trying to pin down mfg date? any help would be great.

A 72 came from the factory with a K181 7hp.

New guy still trying to figure the forum out lol. so this 72 series motor is stamped K301A. did the 72 ever have that motor or your telling me it's not original??

If those numbers you are reporting are correct,thats not the original engine.Thats not a bad thing as you have a lot more horses,enjoy them!

K301A is a 12hp Kohler. It would have come in a model 124 or 125 at the time your model 72 was built.
If you want to figure out when your model 72 was built you'll have to find the tag on the tractor rearend, or it may be just a stamping on the side of the rearend housing.
