Hey gang... I have a 149 that has blown the old, and now a new, voltage regulator. I am assuming the generator is bad. A few questions:
How do I test my assumption?
What else might it be?
If it is the generator, should I replace it or rewind it?
Is there a good source for a replacement if that is the decision?
What is the air speed of an unladen swallow?

Cub Cadet FAQ #47 and #47a deals with testing and rebuilding starter/generator.
Or you can go to (Search forums) and look at previous posts about your subject.
If you search on this site you can learn just about anything you want to know about these tractors.
 
If my memory serves me correctly, you can ground the field post on starter/gen and generator should put out full charge.
I don't have my old Cub Cadet to check.
Haven't worked with a generator for years.
 
Thanks for the comments and FAQ lead. If it's the generator is there a "performance" replacement I might consider?
 
15 years ago a new set of field coils was about $60. No way are you getting it rebuilt for $40 today.
 
I have done brushes and bearings but no equip to check coils..Often the armature needs to be refreshed on a lathe...I have a good guy locally so not considering doing it myself again. Most of the old ones need a serious cleanup inside as well...
