I have replaced the hyd pump, still no pressure. With engine running I get no lift, no power steering and the wheels don't turn. I suspect the hydraulic by-pass valve but it looks very hard to replace.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Patrick V. Did you prime the charge pump with oil or grease? The pumps are not self priming so if you can shoot some oil into the charge pump or if you carefully take it apart then apply a small amount of grease to the gerotor. KEEP EVERYTHING IMMACULATELY CLEAN>

Yes, I tried to get as much fluid in the pump as I could. I was told that it would self-prime as the air in the lines would be expelled when it entered the gear box, maybe not.
If the by-pass valve is stuck open or defective (I have a new one and it sure looks simple - not much to go wrong - except O rings)would that cause the power steering & lift to not function, same as the transaxle?

Thanks.

Pat

Patrick V. Nope... once the air enters into the charge pump it stays there. A dab of grease on the gerotor helps immensely.

Marlin,

That is probably my problem, I'll pull the pump and grease the geroter. If that does not work I'll try to bleed the hyd system. What is the best way to bleed it?

Thanks
Pat

Patrick V. A dab of grease is what we put on the gerotor at work before the pump is put on the test stand and filled with oil. The dab of grease works the best for priming. As for bleeding perhaps someone else has a way to do it. I always just have used the grease method. You could put oil in one or both of the check relief valve holes also to make sure the pump is filled with oil.
