Cub Cadet 2155 Flywheel hand turns but seems to stop.

Purchased not running 2155 for $100 for mower deck. Has the usual starting/20 min quitting issues. However took off starter/removed spark plug. Tried to turn hand-turn flywheel. Flywheel will turn about 1/4 turn or so and easily turn back but it stops. Something is stopping the flywheel from completely rotating Only has 450 hours showing and seems to be correct. Any ideas? Wife would like it for her kwork yard. Thanks.

broken connecting rod. Pull the plug, see if you hear / feel the piston move, or pull the head completely off and see if it goes up and down.

Did that. Piston goes up and down with no noise. Feels like something is stopping the flywheel from rotating around. Turns about a quarter or so and back easily with no sound. The stoppage feels the same in either direction. Previous owner bought it to repair but couldn't find the problem. Will tear engine down eventually. If previous owner put on another coil and didn't gap correctly could that be stopping flywheel? Just thought maybe someone came across this issue before. Searched internet without any luck.

I am confused, you bought it with the “runs twenty minutes then stops” issue then you removed the plug and starter and now the flywheel won’t make a full revolution? Or am I missing something else? If this is the case then something dropped in the cylinder or something dropped between the flywheel and the housing. If the flywheel won’t go past TDC then it’s foreign object in the cylinder. If it’s going past tdc and getting stopped elsewhere it’s something in the flywheel area.

good thought KHarvey, yes, as long as it hasn’t been repowered this is an OHV motor and it could have dropped a valve. easy to pull the valve cover and verify this.

Well seems the squirrels had stock piled acorns in driveshaft housing. Turned engine again and broke free. Must of been crude on cylinder wall. The cub only has 190 hours not 400. Taking engine out and cleaning it good and hope for a good mower. Thank you your input. Will let you knows how it turns out.
