1863 no crank issues,402 hours on the meter,i use the tractor for snow blowing only, the blower is an 551,after blowing snow for 1/2 hour,i turned the pto switch off and @ half throttle driving the tractor back to the garage,i heard a pow noise (back fire ?)and i loss power and the tractor would not crank.i did check the 8 year old battery-ok- replaced the cir. fuse and still i have no crank.before i go further into the wiring does anybody have any idea what happened to my 1863.my cub dealers labor rate is @75.00 per hour and that is a little pricey for myself.thanksPG

Safety switches ? Check battery connections, clean all Grounds, check all electrical connections to start with...
Also "parts lookup " has wiring diagram for reference.

You say the "POW" was out of the exhaust (Back fire.)
Many engines that lose Ignition at higher RPM will tend to flood the Muffler with unburned gas and then Ignite with a loud POW! but that doesn't explain the No Crank that you now have.. Unless you lost a Main Fuse but you say you checked that.
Broken Wire to Ignition Switch? Ignition Switch Failure?
With ignition on I would check Voltage to Coil and with Ignition switch in Crank position, check voltage at the starter.

finally,i started to work on my cub problem(no start issue)found an defective interlock switch, replaced the switch and the 1863 fired right up!also i found a hugh problem with the cv joint(1 bolt holding the flange on) plus the cooling fan was totally gone.from now on i will perform the correct maint. on my 1863.my thanks to paul and tony for your imput on the no start issue!
