CC 147 Kohler K321 Head Gasket replacement

I pulled the heads off the Tractor last night to check it out. Not as bad as I thought it would be. Going to check flatness on the heads and clean up the top of the motor.
any suggestions on what to clean up the build up?

Plastic scraper will work good for the piston. You can use a wire wheel on the valves if you are careful not to hit the piston.

Might as well take the valves out and clean/relap them while you are in there.

320 then 220 wet or dry on the granite surface plate. installed with new head gasket and it fired up first shot!
