thanks for the suggestion, i didn’t know the 70 & 100 had different mufflers. i would like it to run quieter, for sure.

and yes the mower spindle shields are back in place after having been removed to clean out the hay they hauled from the original owner’s lawn.

is there any content on this site that points to the OEM part # for the 100 muffler? i had been leaning towards adapting a modern noise-suppressor muffler like what some hunters put on their ATVs. thanks,
 
100 muffler on the left (not Kohler, but pretty darn close), and Kohler O/70 on the right. The original O/70 Kohler muffler was the silver galvanized color, but finding one is rare. Most Kohler replacement engines were also painted black.
The downside to this: the 100 muffler will probably not reduce the noise any.

Something is not right with the chains on the left side. Looks like it needs to be cinched up another link or two before adding the tightener.

appreciate the trained eye. they’re certainly not evenly spaced nor tensioned, but they’re functional. I’ll strive to do better next time!
 
I wouldn't wait for next time. Fix it now. Inside out will tear up the sidewalls, and if they are not on as tight as possible and then tensioned, it can catch and ruin the fenders.
 
thanks guys. while indeed inside out, they’re tighter than tree bark so slack won’t do harm. i’ll get ‘em turned right-side out to avoid chewing rubber, and I’ll also jack up the rear end to work on them, as opposed to rolling onto the chains to put them on like i did the first time. that is a real booger of a way to do it, never again! -C3 ❄️🚜💨

Just make the Inside, Sidechains are tight. If you dontvtake up as much as you can, they will want to ride over as they are trying to do on that left rear.
These small tires are tough to put chains on. On my Cub, i took the tires off to chain them. Tires off and almost totally deflated during install. On my larger tractor, i drive them on. Never tried it on this little tires. See link below, hes not the best at it but you'll get the idea
Larger tires....so much easier.
