I need to change the hydro fluid also a minor tune-up. Spent $291 for fluid, filter, spark plug, etc.
My question is what can I use to seal the case after I put the cover back on. Suggestions have been Form a Gasket and Silicon. If silicon, what brand or name?

$291? That's a bit excessive. My local Case/IH dealer has genuine Hytran for $28 a gallon, and OEM Cub filter for $16.

That's wonderful but you do not live in Northern California. Five gallon fluid was $117.99 and a filter was $19.94. Gasoline at Arco is the least expensive today right at $5 a gallon and diesel is over $6 a gallon. Wife got two grocery bags yesterday, cost her over $200. We do not have a Case/IH dealer in our area. Thank you for your vote of confidence - I now feel much better!

While California is a nice place to visit, you couldn't pay me to live there. You do realize the hydro capacity is 7 quarts?

The joint is designed for a gasket, so use the OEM gasket plus some gasket sealer. Not RTV. Also, RTV is not gasket sealer.

FTV is a filter plug, once it gets loose un the system.

I think he meant RTV will clog the filter if it somehow manages to break loose into the internals. Meaning use it sparingly if you feel the need to use it at all.

How’d I do David?

...he’s probably out mixing cement.

Hey Rene, my bride was a Smythe. What part of the country are you in?
