Nic:
Thanks for the comment. I did set the governor according to the manual, but maybe I did something incorrect. I will try it again.

You guys are sharp. That's the main reason I drug the 123 home is for the two sets of weights on it. Believe it or not both of the reflectors are there and in good shape. It also has headlights on it.

Earl.....my .02 cents on the governor...
had a governor gear go bad in a single cylinder...
spent some time trying to set it only to have the setting go bad...
there might be a weight that has come apart in side...
the only way to tell was pull the motor and open things up and have a look see..
Nic makes a point to go back and start with a basic adjustment....
But in the long run...things don't last forever ...and you have to pull the motor completely down ...cause that's the first piece to go in and the last to come out..

Nic:
Regarding the RPM setting on my 129.You were correct on starting over. I was more careful this time and it had a better result. I got the RPM up to about 3430. I think that 3430 is close enough. Thank you again for your comment as I thought I had the gov adjustment correct. Wrong again was I.
Mick:
Thanks for your comment. The weights are gone. Those gears went a few years ago and I did not put them back in. I do appreciate any comments. Anything is a possibility until the problem is fixed.

Earl-

If you are using the tractor for mowing, you want to set it at 3600. You would not believe how much of a difference 1-200 rpm will make in the quality of cut. BTDT...

Jason W. So that's why everything was so bright this morning... You turned the lights on first thing.

I shouldn't have to buy any 954-3005 belts for a while, thanks to a lead by Doug A. in Ohio! LOL
I got 29 by the big brown truck today!
THANKS Doug!

Here's a photo that Marlin sent to me to resize and post. I believe this is part of Dave Kamp's stash of Cub parts that Marlin mentioned back on Friday October 14th.

Mick:
You are correct regarding the balancing gears and not the weights. I thought of what I posted after it was sent. Thanks for correcting me. Maybe I will try to get the full 3600 RPM later. Do many run full throttle when using the mower deck. I do with the snow blower but not with the deck?
Earl L

Earl....have you adjusted the throttle stop on the side of your motor where the throttle cable attaches to the governor arm....that's where your rpm adjustment should come from???

Am I thinking right Guys???.

Mick, is this the throttle stop you are referring to for Earl? I believe he said his was missing.

That's the one Kraig.!!!
Thru all this, I was thinking that to adjust the RPM"s this is where it happens,
I've had RPM"S run wild and end up replacing the governor gear.
As Harry states, Thanks Oh great keeper of the photo's!!

Mick - you have to have the throttle stop in order to adjust your rpm's.

Without the stop I can only imagine you're either running the engine at a fixed rpm or you're trying to adjust the governor and throttle shaft linkage to no end. It's just not gonna work and you're risking blowing up your engine.

Besides the throttle stop (little L-shaped part) you need to make sure you have the shouldered sleeve and spring washer so the throttle bracket can rotate freely as you move your throttle cable.

Hopefully you have the governor adjusted correctly and you know where the governor/throttle linkage arm to carb was originally so you can return it to that position. Also, you need to attach the governor spring in the holes like you see in Kraig's pic.

I hope you can locate the little parts you need without to much trouble.
