Don, I do have a great respect for heights, no fear of height but I don't go out of my way to climb stuff just for the fun of it. I have full body harnesses vest for hunting in deer stands. I also use a retractable safety line for climbing in and out of the stands. The scariest time is putting the stands up and taking them down.

Mike, only 4 lights, the 5th item you see is a mirror that was on it when I bought it. At one time they had a mirror on the other sided as well. It has since been removed. I've also shortened the mounting stalks and replaced the light housings. The stalks get caught on tree branches even with them shorter. Here's an old photo of it where you can see the mirror.

Don T: There was a method to my madness. MADE IN USA looks so much nicer right side up.

Don T., as always your posts are informative, funny and a bit hard to decipher but I'm sure we all get your point. Nice work on the CUB shed!! I hear ya' on Digger......... is he snowed in already!!

As I dug further into the K-301 I found some interesting things. Check out the boss for the S/G,,the other balance gear was ready to come off and had worn the boss to a nice 45deg. angle. A little more wear and oil would have been leaking out from the S/G mounting bolts on the block!! As you can see there is also a nice chunk of the cylinder casting missing. The stroke on the piston is about 3/4in. above the area in question. If I grind the rough casting smooth do any of you engine heads see any problem with continuing with taking the block to the machinist for further work?

Also, this engine was lacking the governor gear and all related assemblies, can anyone provide a picture that shows what things look like in there assembled.

Rick A., the Wife's 149 will be wearing I.H. white for the most part as it stands now. We are still "discussing" final paint.

Have a great weekend all!!

Richard I have a 301 with almost the same identical chunk missing and was afraid of being laughed at to ask if it is still usable.
I cant wait to here what everyone says about it.

If that block was mine I would re,sleeve it...my .02 All these single K will wear egg shaped in the bottom of there stroke. You have skirt alignment missing. I would re sleeve and re bore the sleeve to match the piston and leave them balance gears out. My .02

Wow, Richard, that engine was still running??
Don T.: What I haven't been doing is cleaning the CubHouse! (because you asked)

Trying to build up the Cub Fund, I've stripped 3 Kohlers for ebay. (great time to buy, sucky time to sell) Learning to ship blocks! The engine stand and a K301 are headed for the cellar - the K301 will come out as a rebuild in the spring.
Cut a cord of firewood for resale and burned the brush:

I swear, someday soon I'm going to get a fire permit, but for now I'm working with the Rule of Common Sense. (we had 7" of rain in the week previous to this. (I joke about my Magic Chain Saw - I start it and it starts to rain)
Those high back seats don't weigh all that much. The first one I got I thought I was just getting a cushion until I opened the box. The box is fairly large - great for cutting down and shipping stuff out! Made by Michigan Seat, I think, and noticably comfortable.
I didn't take a pic of the 123 hooked to the woodsplitter (Cub Cadet, BTW, with a 8.5 Kohler engine). Will do that later in the Firewood thread in the Sandbox.
Have I used up my share of bandwidth, yet??

Richard i had a 321 with that skirt broke off 1/2 below the piston stroke. It was within tollerence so i rebuilt it with new piston rings and rod. The engine ran fine but you could hear A bad knock in it. I took it to a good mechanic and he said the knock was the piston slap. Needless to say i got rid of it but told the guy i sold it to what the knock was. I know it was still runing (and knocking) 5 years later.

Time for some white paint on the rims and rear PTO today... The rain finally stopped

Lucas....the general consensus is to leave then out....sorta like putting two time bombs in your engine...and take a chance.

Usually you can't feel much difference in vibration.

So far I'm 0 for 3 on finding balance gears in my K-301 Kohlers.

If the balance is an issue, Kirk Engines ( see the neat sponsor boxes at the top of the page ) has "Crankshaft Balance Plate Kit".

Jeff: Thanks for the boot in the butt. The engine's in the cellar!
125 #255129 is a donor. (wheel weights are in Minnesota) Sorry Kraig!

Don, that's an impressive pic - one of the nicest I've seen of your 129/loader. I'm willing to bet that you could do just what Lucy just did with it. This operation was performed the French way - I put the engine in the cellar before I put the engine stand down there. 129/loader needs a name? How about Dawnie?

DONALD - NO rock is Good rock. My land scaping project has removed about 6000 square feet of rock and converted it to grass, lawn, something I can mow. Last summer I moved over 25,000# of rock, and now have to move some of it again. Did I mention I HATE ROCK?!?!

I can deal with bark mulch. It's easy. My Brother-in-law was bragging last summer he placed about 6-8 yrds of mulch over a couple weekends. Then my Wife told him we did SIX yards in about 2 hours. Yep, loaders are a wonderful tool.
