Im pretty sure I had to polarize a brand new, never opened VR...or at least I did a year or so ago on a brand new one for a Cub Cadet from the local Cub dealer. It had the instructions right in the box on how to do it. Just throwing it out there...

Hmm, is it possible I could agree with Dennis and Ryan (even tho they disagree with each other)? And I could disagree with Charlie?

I did purchase a V/R that came with instructions, and how to polarize it. It should have had a footnote * that these instructions DO NOT APPLY to IH Cub Cadets.

I think the instructions are written for people that understand and are aware of all the differences with V/R's and SG's and Generators, etc. And get this - you'd be better off if the V/R did "NOT" come with instructions.

like section 1-27 in the 122/123 Service Manual since IH didn't include anything in the 1x8/9 manual, but it really doesn't help either and it's more confusing to me.

Guess I'm about ready, as long a Ma Nature don't "Buffalo" us here in the Midwest!!

Sill gotta round up some chains and weights for the 'O' yet.

Had to do a quick "mod" job on the blade lift bracket as it was for a NF that is missing the sub frame.

Dave S.,
The cubs look good and at the ready for the nasty white stuff. Ours is almost all gone and yours is too thanks to the near 50* weather today.

On the voltage regulator thing, I, too didn't know you had to polarize them on a CC. Never have or had too. I do know we had to polarize them on the older Jane Doe A's and B's as well as Farmall H's and M's. I'm curious to find out the correct answer..........

The guy that rebuilds starter gens for me sold me a voltage reg that came with instruction sheet. He also said the reg would polarize when starting if wired correctly. If not wired correctly he said he would sell me another one. Not the lesson I wanted to pay for twice.

OK, that clears things up for me. I never polarized them on my cubs and never had any problems. So sounds like Denny's correct. Charlie, thanks for clearing up the difference between the two situations, although it is pretty obvious now. Duh on my part.
