Just a shot in the dark but could they have started putting the balance gears in the later model K241 like what went into quietlines? Not to many of those out there, might be why you dont see em that much. I havent checked mine yet.

I have never seen a QL engine with balance gears. I have rebuilt 30+ QL's and never seen one with the studs. Now every wide frame I have seen has them except maybe the 10 HP, I too have never seen a 10 with balance gears.

I thought any K series single with the full length top mounted oil dipstick couldn't have balance gears since the dipstick would hit them.

Kieth, Ql have the front right tube dipstick but that tube goes down to the right side of the block, It doesn't go directly in the top. I don't know if that would give enough clearance for the gears or not. The only thing I know for sure one of my QL don't have them

Some of the Q/L engines have the dipstick on the right side of the block and use the flexible dipstick and some are located on the right side top of block and use the rigid dipstick.

Lewis,

a top post will never fit under the seat... The pics are of the battery sitting up a little because I have not modified the tray yet.... To get access to the battery, I will outfit it with one of these gizmos, which I have mounted on all of my DC stuff for easy attach.
