Jason-
What do you do once you get it spinnin @ 12,000 RPM? You cutting it open? With what?

Variable speed Drill,
I twist the green wire around trigger until desired speed is achieved,
happy.gif
then metabo w/ Slicer plus blade / thin cut off blade slips perfectly between Chuck and hat Rim!
Light pressure towards hat and crimped end now has just enough material removed for disassembly!!!!

Jason W. Don't worry. Some of the methods I used would be deemed questionable.

Earl Ford is heading home after delivering a 102 to Ian Woodhouse and picking up some free Cub Cadet parts this afternoon. Another Cub Cadet 102 will be refurbished and put to good use. Earl will be using his free parts to preserve more Cub Cadets. It feels good to be able to help others. Thanks to once again to Dave Kamp.

Marlin, Dave, thanks!
Ian good luck my friend! I'm curious if your going to name that 102...

Which one first?
105 and cozy cab seems fitting, and qa42a. Decisions, decisions

Earl - I'm sure you'll go with the 102 and Cozy Cab with fuzzy dice and an 8-track player since it's becoming winter.
What's Dave up to these days ? I see he's not logged in for 6.5 years....

Jason, I've used a vertical drill press in the same fashion. We did it back in junior high on a 1000 engine to clean valves, then did tap and file method to regain compression. Too bad it went down the road years ago.

KENtuckyKEN. Dave K. works for CAT scales out of Walcott, Iowa and travels the U.S. installing and fixing scales. In his off work time he's in the Insane Quad Cities Band. Last week he picked up an IH 4130 from a coworker/friend of mine that was in an engine/wire fire and is rebuilding it. Dave also will help bring Cub Cadets and parts to others when he travels. Still the same great gentleman as always.

Earl F. Fantastic meeting you! I know that Ian is very happy to have acquired the 102. Glad that you made it home safe and sound. I've now room in the shed for the garden tiller and two engines.

Jason, Jason, Jason - I'm trying not to pay attention to your posting on the hydraulic lift handle since Charlie said I'd never see it, but but but, I just have to get in a little something.

You said "Maybe if spirol pins were used to begin w/ neither of our "Links" would have required any modifying, butchering, or reworking at all,"

Well - spirol pins WERE USED to begin with. The original little 1/8" pin was a Spirol or coiled spring pin. Whoever drilled out and repaired yours before used a 1/4 "split" pin. Yes I like to call it "split" instead of "slotted" pin as you called it in the pic you posted. I used to just call all these pins "roll" pins but have learned the difference over time now. The split or slotted pins just don't have the strength required for IH Cub Cadet applications.

And here's some additional info that I'm wondering if Charlie encountered yet:

I needed a couple Coiled Spring Pins (spirol pins), 1/4" x 7/8", Part No. 715-3011, and thought I'd pick them up at the local dealer. Unfortunately he didn't have them in stock so I just had him order a couple. When I went back to pick them up they were SPLIT PINS!!!!! (or slotted pins as you call them). I convinced the dealer they weren't good enough for my needs, that the Parts Manual called them out as "Hv or Heavy Duty Coiled Spring Pins", and I got him to substitute a couple 1/4" x 1 1/8" coiled spring pins that I'm gonna grind off to 7/8". I just now checked the CCC web site and they are calling out "715-3011, Hv Coiled Spring Pin" as being NLA!!!! YIKES

Charlie - you still got the old 715-3011 correct coiled spring pins (spirol pins)??? Hope you got at least a couple gross (144 X 2 = 288). I think we're gonna need them since every Creeper has 2 and a split pin just ain't gonna do it.

Harry,

Everybody quit buying those from MTD a long time ago.......McMaster Carr and Grainger both carry the spirol pins, and purchased in bulk, much cheaper than MTD......

I ordered 20ea. of several sizes a few years ago from McMaster Carr........

I just looked up Charlie's prices on pins and he is cheap enough for individual pins

(ever buy std pins from the Hillman isle at the hardware store?)........lots of choices out there, and in this case being saddled to MTD's NLA process isn't a concern!
