Jeff-

That stack you pictured would lsat me five years here in NC. I don't know how yall do it.

Happy heating!

Wayne,,,sometimes I wonder my self how we do it, my best estiment is about 12 cords split and stacked

This is a nice place to come to when I start to feel sorry for myself using 4-5 cords/year. Story is, that we have access to high btu/cord hardwoods like beech, yellow birch, maple, etc. White birch has a bad rep in this area (for causing creosote), but after reading what I could find online, I see no mention of that particular problem. It (white birch) lacks runs about 20mbtu/cd where beech runs above 26mbtu/cd. Snow here today, but not the 6" Don T. claims. 50* high forecast for next Tuesday. This country needs a good high! (Not original - that was from the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman, years ago).

Have today off because of the American Thanks Giving (I had to work the Canadian Thanks Giving - so I guess Happy Turkey Day to all of you South of the border!) I thought I would spend some time outside. Decided to split up some kindling for the next few weeks! Had a coffee, radio on, relaxation.

Split up a wagon load of firewood this past weekend so it could start drying down for next year. My goal is to fill this shed this winter if I have my way?

I still have to cord this new stuff up yet, but I figured its better thrown under the roof than sitting on the wagon getting wet. Well, that is until it snowed the other night!! East wind does it every time! Really should buy another tarp for that end. DUH!

Mike, nice stash of kindling. I like how you snuck that tiller in the photos.

Holy Catfish, Mike, what's on the other end of that Stihl chainsaw bar? Glad to hear you're enjoying "our" day. I saw on TV that it's the only really, honest, ours alone holiday that the USA has.

Kraig,
Thanks! I made sure that tiller was in there to please Charlie!

I figure with that much kindling it should get me into middle of December before I have to split up any more. Unless the kids start the stove, then I might have to split more by the end of next week! OMG! I have never seen people start a wood stove like my kids. They certainly didn't learn it from me! Notice how I now have a block of wood and the stool out to split it. Think that is a sign of old age? Just can't be down on my knees on the garage floor for that long anymore.

Frank,
Its an MS 341 59cc (12lbs). Bought it with an 18" bar instead of the 16" standard bar. Had to get me a 24" bar to go along with it. Trees were too big. So now I am set with the two bars and two wedges. Not too many trees around where I cut that will stand a chance. Well with exception of a couple Oaks I've had a few choice words with that just would not fall without some coaxing!

Mike:
She's a beauty (and all shined up for the parade). I'll stick with 3 things - Stihl chainsaws, Jeeps, and ..... oh, yeah, Cub Cadets. My "big" saw is a 044, but early last summer we bought an MS250. I really like it. The 044 might handle a 24" bar, but the 16" on the "toy" MS250 is working well for me. Ah, firewood. Whatchu burning up there north and west of me?
