Don - HH - Michael - et all > I can work glas. My boss worked in boats and custom cars coast to coast. When he left and went to Florida he wanted me to go too ... forget that crap ! I don't like hurricanes !!!! I even taught him a few things he hadn't done before when we re-worked one deck mold. You ought to see some of the molds I make from just an idea that I use in my aluminum casting.
Well heck Kraig aint gonna brag on me

Matt,

I've got a Motion Industries about 20 miles away, which I'll be nearby later this week. I have 44C, 48, and 50C decks and fortunately they share the same spindle assemblies. I already had the 48" apart (which I wrote about last week) to apply Slip Plate, which is a work in progress to clear off the grass and rust. So I took apart that center spindle. It looks pretty simple: a Timken LM-11949 roller bearing, cone, and MTP-7191 grease seal - a set on both ends of the spindle housing with a split spacer bearing between the two roller bearings. This is the deck spindle you wrote me was installed with the spindle housing installed on the wrong side of the deck. While taking this one apart I noticed the PO installed one of the grease seals upside down - Duhh.

I'll use a brass drift to remove the old cone, but what do you suggest using to install new cones? I understand it has to be pressed squarely to get it to seat correctly. I've got a large axle nut socket that is a wee bit too small, but might work. Maybe invert the old cone and use it to set the new cone?

Glad that Hydro Harry is back. Isn't there a guy in Attleboro, Mass known as the Professor that we haven't heard from in a while? I did see him at the Zagray (CT) farm show a few years back.

I want to repaint my 71. I would like to use CC paint of the period but $10 for a rattle can. I hate to think of it but rustoleum yellow is looking better all the time. What do you guys use? Does it lesson the value if it's not CC period paint? I mean, if I use 2010 CC yellow on a 1966 model 71 or even the rustoleum, will that bring the value down?

Josh:
