I tore into my 44A deck to replace the spindles and cannot figure out how to get the nut with the woodruff key in it and the shaft off so I can put the pulleys on the new spindles. Any advice would be appreciated.

Richard

Nevermind,,,,,,, I went to the parts lookup and figured it out. A couple of taps and the pulley slides off of the shaft!!!

Back to work...

Oops! Sorry about the pics.

I am looking for a complete spindle assembly for a 44A deck off a 1250 Cub cadet. I am getting kind of frustrated will all the cross reference part numbers. can someone simplify this by directing me to someplace that sells parts that are easy to look up?
Thanks,
Terry

I just disassembled six of those suckers and I know what you mean. That "nut" being part of the pulley is nothing but a confusion factor. They come right off with penetrating oil and a tap or two to loosen the rust. The most trouble I had was with the spindel cup not wanting to come off. After wire brushing the area I could see a slight burr which I then filed off. The cup then slides right off. JH

Yes, Jerry, that "nut" did have me perplexed for awhile. Terry, like Tom said the sponsors above have the replacement spindles. Be aware that they are not the same physically and mount underneath the deck. Also be aware that the shaft can come mounted in the spindle upside down to it's correct orientation. How do I know this....?? Well the instructions state the grease seals are to be installed with the lip down on the upper bearing and lip opposite on the down bearing..... And ,well, I figured the shaft would come installed properly and I didn't look at the body of the spindle and I installed four of the six seals improperly. Thankfully they came out with little trouble and installed back properly. I think Charlie put two of the shafts in upside down just to see if I was on my toes...... LOL. Anyhow, If you purchase the new spindles pay attention to the shaft's orientation in the unit. You will also need 3 new bolts, nuts, large flat washers and lock washers for for each spindle. The original bolts are carriage bolts and will not work with the new spindles and washers are not provided with the kit. By the way, I found my noisey spindles to be in very good condition.... the noise was coming from the pulleys scraping against the heads of the carriage bolts. I believe a washer between the spindle cups and the pully would have done the trick....... but..... new spindles, gators, speed up pulley and some S.B. tweaking will have the 44A hummin'.

126 PTO installation question: This is difficult to explain over the internet but here goes- I started reading the PTO installation manual. It said to remove the old shaft and "Discard"??? Then it says to install the new shaft. However, once I began disassembly I realized that the PTO shaft only runs through the rear of the tractor's rear end. You still have to have the front shaft which makes me wonder why they said to "discard" it. Anyway, my problem is that I can't figure out how to make the the two shaft's "mate" together. The rear of the front shaft rotates in a bearing and there are no splines that extend through the bearing for the "clutch" on the PTO shaft to slip up on when engaged. What am I missing here?????

Jim-
You're missing the correct top shaft for the rear PTO option, IH-387298-R11. There are two different types of top shafts for the Cub Cadet 3-speed transmission, one for those with rear PTO and one for those without.

Most people selling "complete kits" on ePay don't think to include this item, or more likely don't realize (or want to go to the trouble) of removing the top shaft and replacing it.
