I have a 127 hydro, and I am replacing the fan that is on the drive shaft, I have noticed that there is supposed to be a fan cover or shroud around the fan. Is the fan shroud a must have on or can the 127 be used without it?

Frank S,

After watching the videos, I'm wondering if your timing may be off as it seems to be lacking power and maybe over heating. Matt Gonitzke just posted an excellent "how to" set your timing with an ohmmeter a few pages back last week. You might double check it giving Matt's method a try since this problem has been a hard one to figure out on your 128. Also, I assume you have checked for mouse nest's in the flywheel shroud which can also cause overheating problems.

Ron - If it were overheated it'd be locked (or almost) and not crank back up as easy as it does.

Eric - Funny thing about air-cooled equipment ... it needs air ducted across it to cool. Yes it does need the fan shroud.

Kentuck:
I figure it's been at least 10 years since I've had the sheet metal off - which is greater than the lifetime of most consumer L&G equipment these days.... so it's got a little grass, dirt and hytran on it, not my usual meal anyway..

Kraig.. I may change cameras...not real happy with the color I'm getting on the old CD Mavica, I was kind of hesitating on using the Alpha with greasy hands.

Ok thanks Ken, now I need a picture of the exact location of where the shroud bolts up to, as I have looked in parts look-up and it is not very clear on where this goes. Also if any one can show me a picture of the front and back of the driveshaft on a 127 hydro, I want to make sure that this one is put together correctly, it looks like it is wrong but I am not 100% sure so I would like to see someone elses to make sure.

Eric, I seem to recall that the fan shroud was not used on the 1x7 series. It was on the 123 and 1x5 series but was deleted on the 1x7. I have a 107 parts chassis and it does not have the fan shroud. I'll also add that the 1x9, the QL series and 82 series did not use a fan shroud. Here's what one from a 125 looks like.

It would have been bolted to the underside of the tunnel by these screws. If there is no indication of screws ever having been installed then no fan shroud was ever installed.

KRAIG - Yes, but I'd have to take the deck off. Next time I R&R the deck to sharpen blades I'll take a few and e-mail them to you. It would be a good project for You & Art to do to on one of your decks, practice welding with Art's MM-210. I did my mod's 20-25 yrs ago so all I had was the AC buzzbox welder.

I wanted to mod a 42" deck Dad had the same way but it kinda belonged to one of his CC's He sold 4 yrs ago.

I have A Cub 123, I am having Hydro problems. It goes forward and reverse, but with a load it will not. Do I need to buy a rebuild kit? Is there a rebuild kit?

GERRY - You still have SNOW on the ground? Still have your chains on? I could see DON T still needing chains.

Ron R. Schmitt (Rrschmitt)

timing was set before this happened, i can check it again.

i do have mice in the shed, i keep mouse traps out, but i can check for a nest.
