Ok another question about the belts I consulted the faq chart..found my 125 but I find it confusing I see the deck belt chart/measurements but the belt I'm look for is pto to center spindle.the second column on the chart shows belts but from how I'm reading it it seems the belt listed is the belt for my hydraulic lift pulley not the front pto belt????am I reading it wrong????

Marty-I had an old timer tell me one time "the dumbest question of alll is the one you don't ask" true don't you think?

How can I check a voltage regulator that isn't mounted on the tractor? TIA

Ethan- The headings on the chart are off so that's what's confusing you. The second column is misc. belts, the third is pto to deck belts and the last column is the belt on the deck.

Ethan, the "PTO" column is for the belt that runs from the PTO to the center spindle on the mower deck. The "Spindle" column is for the belt that connects all 3 (or 2 for the Original timed deck) blade/pulleys. According to that chart/list, the belt you want is P/N: IH-473462-R4 -3/8 X 81". However, on my 125 with 42" deck I use the IH-490489-R2-3/8 X 80", because:

There's a reason there's a Parts Lookup button on every page.
ALL decks are NOT created equal.

Charlie, good point. Tractors and decks can be mixed and matched especially over 40+ years and multiple owners.

Ok so I think I've got this now so...my 125?has a 48 inch deck..I should need a 3/8x75 1/2 part number 489 397 r3 for the front pto to deck,and a 1/2x80 part number 489 399 r2 for the deck belt

Ethan,

You are correct.
It is only dumb if you don't ask it.

Ethan, oops, for some reason I was thinking you had a 42" deck. Sorry I gave the wrong part numbers.

Went to do regular maintenance on Dad's 1450 today and finally change out rear cover. Threaded casting broke on 2 of the bolts. One of them was already broken and a PO had welded a stud to it. Well that broke again taking more casting with. Looks like I'll have to either change the whole rear end or at least the center section.
I'm sure I had something to do with it trying to cure the leaking cover. Note to others, torque the cover properly. I'll have to resize the picture later when I get time.

I used the original (I think) bolts. I changed the lower 3 to accommodate the drawbar and lower 3 point bracket together only. The pics I'm going to post are of not the top most bolts, but the set below that, if that makes sense.

First was of the right hand side, this is the left hand side, as facing forward standing at rear. I'll measure the bolts and reference the parts lookup to see what I have. I don't recall the head stamping right now. This is the welded stud hole.

On another note, I will thank Marlin H. For the extra rear end I got from him last fall. It will come in very handy when I change the center section. I may just install threaded rod with loctite on this one. I can see now how longer bolts will break the casting Dave. It's probably a combination of both.

I have a question for anyone who has opened up the rear end. Besides gaskets and seals, are there any other clips, pins, bearings, etc that I should just go ahead and replace anyway? Or wait and see what I find?

Don't swap the center section. Just swap the whole rear end and put your good hydro on the donor. WAY too much trouble to strip 2 cases to swap....hydro comes off a lot easier and it probably needs a new gasket anyway

Well, looks like the 1450 roller just came in handy then. Maybe I'll play around with the rear center section swap some day down the road.

On Steve's suggestion, the 1450 currently has external brakes. If the donor has internal brakes, will that hook up correctly? I just want it to stop like it does now. I'm not getting fancy with having both styles for turning or what have you. It would be great but not in my current time table.
