Hi there, I need help with my model 124, which has mowed my yard for many a year. All of a sudden, the steering is starting to tighten up on me. I have tried lubing all the steering joints and it seems to not be making any difference. Its still usable but I fear that I need to repair the problem quickly. It feels like its in the steering column/gearbox. Any help/suggestions appreciated. Jeff

Jeff, welcome..
check out the FAQs, as I believe that there is a steering column article, or do a search.... Sounds like a worn follower pin inside the box

I have a Super Rare 1961 International Harvester Cub Cadet. I bought this tractor from the original owner, he worked in the International Harvester factory. This is a three digit serial number, 151!!! I don't even know if any other International Cub Cadet tractors with a lower serial number exist today. International started building Cub Cadet tractors in late 1961, starting with serial number 100. So this was the 51st tractor built and sold....

The numbers look legit, but!

It sure has some weird stuff stuck to it, LOL

I'd like to see what looks to be some sort of hydraulic lift setup under the hood, GOT PICS?

Do you have a photo showing where on the tractor the S/N is located?

I want to see the serial number with that frame strap repair removed......easy place to hide a few stamped numbers......Repair part needs to come off to be 100% certain IMHO

Actual production started with S/N 590 in 1961. Ten prototypes were built and they were numbers 401-410, only 409 is known to exist. There is also another experimental unit with S/N 411 that Harold Schramm owned which was an earlier built tractor than any of the 401-410 prototypes, it was assigned #411 later. Then 25 test units were built they were numbered 501-525. Several of these are known to still exist including 510, 515, 516, 518, 520 and 522. Pre-production units were built with S/Ns from 526 to 589. 556 and a few others are known to still exist. I'm with Steve B., part of the S/N is covered up on that one. Several details also point to a later production, spindle bolts instead of the earlier collar and roll pins to mention one.

EDIT: Charlie, yep! That's why I wanted to see a wider view.

Yeah, nothing special here to see. Just a P.O. that liked to do all of his own repairs and mods.

The IH Cub Cadet dealer in Elgin has an Original with 535 serial number.

I'm having a situation with the 1650. It didn't want to start yesterday but after I left the barn and returned it fired and ran well. I eventually got some tilling done and parked it by the shed for the evening. This morning it will not start. I checked and have fire to the plug. I got another plug, changed the rectifier, the condenser, and still nothing. Yesterday when tilling I noticed the ammeter stayed pegged to the C side constantly while running but I checked and am only getting 14.5 volts to the battery. Would that indicate a bad ammeter??? When this tractor runs it runs like a sewing machine...very well. The battery I'm using is on it's last leg but it has worked fine the times it started.

As for fuel the tank is almost full. Two days ago I removed the carb and gave it a good cleaning. I was able to start the tractor and adjust the carb and it works well. A while ago I even shot some ether with no results.

Anybody got any ideas? The parts I changed are all known good parts from a 1450.

I'm headed back out now and I won't be surprised if it starts right up. I have a lot more tilling to do!
