Thasnks for setting me straight on the straight pipe issue, DENNIS.

ED CARDINAL- AWWWW MAN, you just knocked the shine off my $300 109 deal.. I wish it looked that good when I picked it up!

RICHARD- Yeah, you will wanna work on that second tractor if you hang around here long. Took me about two years, but it finally happened.

I'M MOWING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Dad came over today and brought me another wear button (for the front PTO on my 147) and after some adjusting with the turnbuckle, the mower deck is working great.

The yard looks great. It mows better than I thought it would. After using it for a while, the turnbuckle needed a 1/4 turn again to tighten it up a bit, but it works great now. I think the problems I had with it before was the fact that the PO ran it without a wear button at all and it didn't want to insert properly into the shut off lever.

I'm estatic. I just wish I had a much bigger yard and more gas so I could keep mowing....

Up next; a new front tire.

PS Tom H; I love your new cub toys.

STEVE B. - If it's who I think it is that you talked to, I bought the K321 in the #72 from him. Guy is really interesting to talk to that's for sure. And WHAT a pile of parts he has!

We discussed what my plans were for the K321 and he said they were good, just don't plan to mow when it's 85-90 degrees out due to the small flywheel.

For those of us plowing with GD's, RPM's is the only way we can adjust speed short of a big gear change.

Yep, we all discuss the "Gernade Gears", but if you really want to see engine parts fly, wait till a flywheel explodes. Treat them nice when you pull & replace them. Check the bore for cracks, especially around the keyway. Wish I still had free access to die penetrant & magnetic particle inspection like I did when I worked at the foundry. I'd sure feel a lot better giving the throttle that last jab up to wide open.

ED C. - Nice looking 149.... REALLY nice. Probably the best series of CC's made.

Could anyone give me any advice on setting up my plow? I tried to follow the faq, put cinder blocks on the one side, etc, but its just not working out too well. Trying to put in two small gardens in the field, 10x20 each. The plow isnt getting good depth and its not turning over the soil either. About 75% or more of it falls back in place. I go back over with a shovel and try to roll it over. Seems like it was leaving a strip of solid ground between the furrows too so I moved the plow as close to the right side as possible. I tried to adjust the point further down, but the tail sticks up into the air? The other way I get no depth at all. Not sure what to do.

My photo software isnt working (need to reinstall it I guess) so check out a pic here http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac235/kc2ebm/cub_cadet/IMG_1192.jpg

Does anyone make a metal grille insert to replace the plastic one in my 109? It apparently got kinda warm and melty..

Charles,

I would check out the sponsors at the top of this page first.

If they don't have any, you could try greedbay.

P.S. You might want to find out why the one you have now got all "warm and fuzzy" before you install a nice one!

Tristan,
From what your pic shows, it appears the whole bottom half of your plow is pointed toward your right rear tire (right rear while sitting on the tractor). The plow should be in line with your tractor. I can't tell what is causing it. Hope this helps.

TRISTAN - Before I even looked at your picture I knew you were trying to plow wet sod. It tends to try to roll back into the furrow, the roots hold the dirt together.

I'd flatten your plow out a bit, try to get the landside (part that extends back against the furrow wall) down into the furrow more to hold the moldboard towards the right so it takes a full cut. You may need to add some weight to the plow while your making the back furrows, passes were you don't have the right side tires down in the furrow.

More speed helps too, throws the dirt farther. And the drier the ground is the more it will crumble and be easier to work up a good seedbed. Sod is hard enough to work when it's plowed dry.
