Thought I would throw some pics up of "What I made while bored".... Rear end covers for the aluminum and cast iron rear ends. The pics are of the aluminum ones but cast iron ones are similiar. Top left is a see thru window with a drain hole. Top right is one with a sight gauge and tempature meter. Bottom left is a clear cover and ring (clear lexan doesnt show very well but its there0 and Bottom right is a sight eye / filler hole with drain hole. All the drain plugs have magnets in them for catching small filings. I was bored and my laser was open today...

Here is the clear one on a 982. No oil in it yet. The lexan is so clear its hard to see.

Aaron, cool stuff! I assume you'd be making draw bars that mount without interference with the drains as well?

Aaron,

May be a silly question, but, How do you fill one the fill the transaxle with the full lexan cover? I would really like something like that, it is really cool, or maybe the one with the site eye and thermometer....

Scott, on that style transaxle there is a fill tube up top.

Thanks Kraig for getting that one. On the cast iron rear ends I have to figure out how to get the oil in thru the lexan. I might have to hire a magician for that trick! LOL

I will also have the drawbars that clear the drain hole, or a guy could cut his stock one to clear the drain plug.

Aaron, not sure what thickness of lexan you are using but 1/4" or thicker can be drilled and tapped. The problem would be people would like to over tighten it and strip the threads out.

Wes, yea that is what i am thinking - but this is only 3/16" and that is even worse. I am looking for a compression fitting that i could drill a hole thru, and then put the bung thru and tighten on back. then remove plug to fill. i have seen them for transmissions, but they are only a small opening. Anyone got any ideas?
