Dennis,

Thanks for the info about the different welding rods. Next time I'm in Home Depot I'll pick up some 6013 & 7014 & I'll look for the 7024. Seems like it's only the thin stuff I need welding on anymore.

NORM - WOW... My old BUZZBOX arc welder is probably 60+ yrs old, old enough it has three rows of nine plugs to change amperage. I'd have tried to get down to the lowest row and run 40-60A tops, maybe use 25A with my 1/16th inch rod.
You did GREAT!

I have a Tru-Value hardware store in town that along with a bolt aisle half a block long that has everything from small stove bolts & wood screws to 1"NF x 6-8" long Grd 8 cap screws also has a decent selection of welding rod in small packages, 1 or 2 pounds each. Not cheap per pound but old moisture laden rod will not weld well if at all. So don't forget to check those places either. I'd look for 6013 in 3/32 in or smaller if you do a lot of thin gauge welding just to have it around.

RUDY - SON & I were prepping my(actually HIS) CC #70 hood for paint last summer and we accidently ground thru a prior repair on the inside hood brace spot welds. We cut the whole area about 2" x 3" out and welded in a new piece of steel. I couldn't find any steel the same thickness as the hood so we used something about .015" thicker. We used the copper backer while SON tack welded the new piece in then he switched to the TIG welder to level the welds to reduce grinding/sanding. When we got done putting all that heat into the one side of the hood that side bowed right at that area about 2, maybe 2-1/2 inches. It "Officially became MILLER TIME", the beer, not the welder.

We left the hood set for a couple days with clamp straps bowing the hood back the other way with a wooden block holding the inward bow OUT and it returned to very close to straight, maybe only bowed in a quarter of an inch! The localized heat of welding does a LOT of weird things to straight sheets of steel.

Dennis,

Thanks for the compliment. Yea, your welder brought back memories of our old Forney on the farm where I grew up. It also was the plug in type, will probably last forever.
I have virtually no welding experience but like doing it. Reshaping metal (or wood) is fun to me. I got plans from Popular Mechanics on making a blacksmith forge, something I've always wanted to do. I'll get around to it someday when I get a bigger shop. Don't know how much actual use I'll get from it, though.

Kraig, Charlie, or anyone-

I'd like to see a photo of the rear of a 147 with 3 pt. I've looked everywhere. If someone has one without the rear shield that would be even better.

TIA.....Wayne

Wayne, not sure if this is a 147 or not but it's from the 73, 1x6/7 series:

Anyone know the size of the hydraulic cylinder used on a Haban 54" front blade, dia. and stroke???

Paul: Thank you very much. I had e-mailed Steven B. awhile back, thinking he might have a 54" blade with the super he bought from B.B. And thank you Steve for the infirmation.

Kraig-

Perfect, thank you. I knew you would have what I needed. I'm re-installing a couple POs have taken off and a picture if worth....well.

Why isn't that main mounting bracket shown in parts look-up or did I once again miss something? Is there a mid production bracket change thing going on?

Wayne, are you referring to part # 9? If so, that is only required for the 1x6/7 series.

Kraig-

Number 9 is what I have been looking for and number 8 has been throwing me. I never came across information as to what fit what model. I did notice the reference to serial numbers on some parts. I guess I need to just find the right manual in the future. After a while the pdf's make me cross-eyed.

Thanks a bunch!

Am working on my son-in-law's 1450 with hyd. lift. He says if tou barely touch the lift lever the deck wil raise or lower. There seems to be some slop in the action of the lever. Any expert advice appreciated. Thanks

Charlie, I looked and looked with all my might but still don't see the two little Cub eyes. I see some International "I's" but...
