Okay, finally got time to take another look at the 71. It's still not sparking, new everything, wired correctly... ????

Since the video I went and bought a new condenser- that had no effect. Any ideas to get this thing to light off? I know it hasn't ran in over a decade, so I'm excited to get her going

looks freshly painted. Sure you have good grounds on the condenser and engine to the frame? 12Volts at coil terminal from starter switch?
 
Rob- I just checked, and I do have solid grounds to the engine and the condeser. I'm getting real close to 12v to the coil terminal, too

Did I hear ya say in the video, that the points were set at .030?
I always start out at 18 to 20 on mine.
Or the old match book cover thing, gets close for me. Plus you can slide it back and forth while your checking to clean the points a little.
 
Charlie- I had them backed out to make sure it wasn't arcing. I just set them back to .019" and nothing changed
 
Clark what is the voltage at the coil when cranking? You may just have to low voltage when cranking.
 
Kendal, I'm showing about 11.6 volts at the coil when cranking to the terminal from both the starter switch and the solenoid studs

New points. Are the contacts clean?

Do they open and close electrically? You may try to do the static timing as per Matt G. The process won't work unless you can get current through the points.

Does the plug have a good ground connection?
 
Ken, that little wire between the coil and points has been known to break inside the insulation and break the circuit. I didn't reread Matts instructions but, if you put a meter or test light on the left terminal of the coil and crank the engine you should see the meter go +12 volts to zero and back again. Or the bulb go on-off-on-off.
