Bob, Look next to the gear, that mark is easiest to see. Think positive, it has to be there....couldn't have been factory assembled w/o it.

Remember crankshaft keyway(PTO) is at TDC, so look where the cam gear would intersect.

It'll come together. When I see your primed parts it just makes me think of that famous (to me) phrase from The Dirty Dozen when Don Sutherland said "Very pretty, but can they fight?"

Aren't we just the optomistic bunch, today?

James Mac, anybody give you an answer yet? Well, if not here's what I'd do
1) Note the direction of rotation when cranking engine. Turn off ignition. Remove spark plug and feel by compression for TDC, or if you can see the keyway in crank it'll be at the top when at TDC.
2) by hand turn engine backward ~20 degrees (roughly 1/8th turn)and find the "S" which is probably well rusted by now. Once you find it put a white mark there so you don't have to suffer through this again. My eyes always have a difficult time finding that "S" also. Good luck and keep us informed.

I titled that picture PRIMED. I was going to name it BLASTED & PRIMED but I didn't want you to think I was talking about myself.

Jim Diederichs Thanks I just got home with a new set of points and condensor. I go and and try again.

P.S. Sometimes I miss my slide rule. Everybody was amazed at the accuracy of the answers. If I remember correctly my ruler was only about a foot long and I could get three decimal places to the right quite easily.

send out the wide receivers cause I'm going W-I-D-E !

That little bit of what looks like a casting flash might be this arrow

Thanks to all!

I lined the nub on the crank with the timing tooth of the cam. It seemed that this let the keyway & piston sit at TDC better. I installed the piston and the oil pan. Now, as the saying goes, it's all over but the cryin!

As a note for anyone thats interested. This time I blasted, primed, painted all the parts seperately. The next engine I rebuild (my 125) I will blast and prime all the engine parts seperately then assemble as much as possible, trim gaskets if need be, mask off areas that need it then spray the color. I'm not delicate enough and have chipped the paint in several places and of course dirtied it up a bit while reassembling. Also, some gasket edges show in a few places. It would look cleaner if painted as a unit. The negative side to painting after assembly is getting oil on the primer and the paint peeling. I could have also put masking tape all around the painted engine to avoid the chips. I guess I can still wipe it down good and touch up the blemishes

Ken

As you were sending your post I was reinstalling the crank the way the picture shows. I was a bit nervous but now I'm confident it's correct.

Where did you dig that info up?

Thanks A Bunch!

Broke the dang key off in the ignition switch on the 129. Any way to get the old key out without having to remove and disassemble the switch, or should I just resign myself to taking the whole thing apart (yes it has a hydraulic lift added to it)

KEN - Is your Delta saw the Contractor's saw? Delta makes some REALLY good stuff. Delta & Porter-Cable used to both be owned by the same company I worked for. They were both sold to Black & Decker about 5 yrs ago. Delta tools are made down your way, name of the town escapes me (darn CRS)
ANYHOW, I'd have to part with two CC's or one Farmall to fit a saw that big in my shop. And THAT ain't going to happen. Son has dibbs on them all. And He don't like running table saws. He won;t touch my little crapsman.
