I am so frustrated with myself right now. I finally get to see a specialist on the 16th about this heel spur. About an hour and a half ago I stepped wrong and the pain was awful. This is after having a cortisone shot a week and a half ago. (Of course a week after having the shot the same pain hit me while walking so I shouldn't be amazed with this incident.) It really puts a damper on doing things. Go a little... then rest ...repeat... over and over.

Enough of that though. Now for some great news. For awhile some Cub buddies/friends have been helping convince Angel that she needs her own Cub Cadet. She isn't/wasn't sure that she could drive one even in a parade. She thinks she may run into or over something. Last week however we found a Cub Cadet that she now calls her own. It is a December 1971 built 129 with an almost new 14hp Kohler. It was on a garage sale. The starting price was $175.00 with a new battery. The final price was $125.00. It has a rusty 48" deck. The engine runs great and the hydro is very strong. Pat Zeroth without trying achieved a couple of wheelies. My buddies are going to help refurbish it since I can't do much more than sit on a chair, sand and use common sense when on my feet. The common sense part is the hardest. The gray strip under the seat is a strip of wood similar to Charlie's rubber mounts. It was held on by latex caulk. We already have new fenders for it.

The 14 hp Kohler appears to be very low usage.

We hope to have it ready for Colo Crossroads Festival Days next month.

Also, this one owner Cadet 526 tiller arrived at its new home recently. The PO picked it up at the Roper factory when he took delivery. It was on craigslist for $30.00. Angel had the idea to remove the seat and fit it behind her when we got it. It will be refurbished and then used for display. The carburetor needs rebuilt is all. It won't siphon the gas from the tank to stay running otherwise it starts on the first pull.

I've got that 526's twin.. Bought it from the same guy that I got my 129 from - he bought 'em both new. Mine looked pretty good 'till I loaned it to a "friend", who left it sitting outside for 6 weeks.. The Chrome on the handles is pretty much shot now. I won't restore mine 'till it can't work anymore (same understanding I've got with the 129)..

Marlin, you have any idea what the PO was pulling with that...wondering why hitch ball is so high? <font size="-2">(or isn't it really that high up?)</font>

Kendell I. Angel's health won't let her do much physical work so a gear drive Cubbie would be hard to handle. She is one of a kind no doubt. She can talk garden tractors with any of the guys that come over. She wants to put a picture of a Cherubim angel driving a Cub Cadet with the dust "a-rolling" from under the wheels on the seat of her Cub. I keep teasing her that her next Cub will be a IH built 782. My ex-sister-in-law and her husband have a 526 tiller they bought new. Donnie told me two years ago that it had at the most 45 hours of usage on it. Always shedded. Maybe one day that will come here. For now we have a 1960s vintage Montgomery Ward tiller for the garden. I'm in my recliner using the old laptop otherwise I'd try and see if I could find some pictures of Fancy's (our boy kitty;s 1650). Maybe Kraig M. has some.Fancy's 1650 came home two years ago this October. And yes, Fancy knows which 1650 is his. Pretty neat not only having Angel with her own Cubbie but having a kitty with his own Cub Cadet.

Allen S. The PO told me that he cut the fenders and put the hitch so high so he could pull a boat trailer and a couple of other trailers around his yard. That hitch wasn't too strong so it couldn't handle much of a load.

I searched to no avail,But there was a post on here a while back that the gentelman tightened up the bolts on #1 in the picture below that attach to the gear box and was able to straighten out the alighnment on the pully on the tiller with the pulley on the right angle gear box.
I know you are asking about leveling out the tiller but Im thinking its simi safe to <u>assume </u>that tightening theese bolts will do that to a certian extent along with alighning the pullys!!!

I also have a 123 that i use a #1 tiller on and you really have to play with the speed control lever to keep it in the ground and keep it from pushing you around.Like mentioned before it does an awesome job on already tilled soil but you have to make multiple passes in un tilled soil.Mine also tilts to the side that has the extention on it!!I only have a extention on one side.

Donald T. From the looks of your pictures it looks like you painted over the breather on the top rear of the hydro rear end. Hope that is just a piece of tape.....

Is there a replacement material for the breather holes???
Mine on my 70 is ither non existent or got ate up from the brake cleaner I used to clean it out with.
You are talking about the little round patch on the raised flat patch near the cover plate,On top right???!!!The one that is a dark spot in scotts post.

I want to say the gear drives don't have that breather. But I'm not 100% sure...
 
Jason D., Matt is correct. The vent for the geardrives is the shifter.

My 70 has the spot on that raised pad,on top,near the cover.I has no "stuff" in it,Im assuming thats the breather,but it has a shifter,LOL!!!!
Im sorry I dont have a way to highlight the picture below and am without camera right now!!

Tillers and Hydrostats

My dad and uncle bought new Cub Cadets about 1970. My dad bought a Hydo and a tiller and my uncle bought a gear drive .My dad said the Hydro was a "joke" to till with,Looked like waves on the ocean when he tilled my mothers garden. My dad and uncle traded Cubs right away,and dad said the 126 with creeper drive did an excellent job on the tiller. I restored the 126 and still have the tiller which has not been used for about 30 yrs and still looks like new,the paint still shines. He said that the hydro would not till at a steady pace no mater what he tried.

Art - that pic yesterday was from my version of a basic tractor - a stripped down 149 with a 123 seat system on it for now. A test tractor, if you will -- something to use to test a couple hydro pumps I have here, for 1 thing. Also good to have around for emergency parts. It steers about the best of any of them here.

My 1250 does a good job handlingg the tiller except when it hits hard soil or a rock. Then it jumps forward. I think it is from wear in the trunion and linkage. I am putting hydraulic lift and creeper on a 102 for tilling only. I can deal with the 1250 on tilling but it has dual hydrolics and can be used for other things.
A friend called last eve. and wants me to buy his 129 with Tiller,blade,deck and wheel weights.
He said it tilled very good. Will see.
 
Morning Frank, i did a few more things to the 129 last night, installed the 12k and If you look close in this picture you can see where i removed the tape from the rear end breather. I did remember to tape it before i sprayed the paint.I realy don`t know how you guys can paint a cub and not get SCRATCHES

I'm just curious... what about breaking new ground with a plow first and then tilling it?
 
I have tilled with both hydros and gear drives, and they each have thier benefits. I fall plow my garden and dig it with a homemade cultivator in the spring to break the top crust and level off a little before tilling. The gear drive will produce a nice uniform levelness because of the constant speed and the tiller will not push the tractor very much. I liked the hydro for the slowness you can go. I could till at a snails pace and make a very powdery bed to plant the seeds into. But it could also get to fine and actually become very hard with a lot of rain and hot sun. Of course all my hydros have been converted to hydraulic lift so that is nice also.
