Geez Digger,

I hope that I have one coming my way. You are being kind of a pig getting two, don't you think;o)

Just when I think I'm getting ahead on the Cub Cadet I'm building . . . . .

Thought I had got down to the point where I was just getting close to paint and assembly on the tractor I'm building. NO! Made a list of everything to buy/do and ended up with 2-1/2 pages, typed!. . . . . . hope the Blunier's beans take their time

I had a ton of respect for those (like Dan Hoefler) that had built tractors from the ground-up, but I couldn't even imagine building something like a crawler at this point, I'd have been bald a LONG time ago.

Mark Mann, are you sure you can't get a carb kit for that 1100? You might not be able to from a CC dealer, but I'd almost bet if you'd get the engine spec number and take it to a B&S parts dealer he'd be able to fix you up. I bought a carb kit not too terribly long ago for a Snapper made in the '60s, 10hp vertical shaft. Might be worth a try. I think it was around $32, which is higher than the typical Kohler kit, but still better than the price of a new carb.

Richard, I've been trying to make more of an effort to take my digicam with me to the shop when I'm working on the Cubs. I've succeeded in getting the camera to the shop the last couple of times, but once the wrenches start flyin' around I tend to forget it's there. I'm gonna have to work on my camera discipline, I reckon. Your efforts, though, are living proof that a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks again!

One thing about those belt-drive JD garden tractors, they're mean to beat in a slow race if the guy runnin' it knows how to make the belt slip juuussst enough to slow it down without stalling it. There's one guy that comes to the Fayetteville shows that has it down pretty pat. Even using hydros, we've only managed to beat him twice, by very, very narrow margins - and one of those times we were both whipped by a hit'n miss engine on a Ford L&G frame that could be timed better by using a calendar than a watch.

Charlie, now that ol' boy has really got his a$$ in a bind...

Wyatt, I hear ya on the parts. I've pulled out enough hair just trying to round up parts for the plain ol' stock tractors I've bought that needed "a few little things here and there to put 'em in tip-top shape". I can't imagine the parts chasing involved for a special project, much less a "ground-up" construction. I admire the efforts (and apparent remaining sanity) of those of you who succeed.

Went on a little trip this weekend to Davenport, IA...
19349.jpg

Ended up stopping at Tom Peter's house to pick up the Recoil 70 I bought from Paul Bell. Paul was nice enough to drive it up to Tom's house on Thursday.
Here's a picture of Tom's garage and his BEAUTIFUL collection of Cubs..

And he showed me his newest addition to the heard..
19352.jpg

Went and visited "the other guys"...
19353.jpg

But they didn't like my hat, so these guys told us to leave...

Charlie,

Cub Cadet only made the weld on brackets for the 44/50" decks, the bolt on versions are Brian Jordans (????), and he fab'ed them himself.

(Make credit corrections as necessary....now, back to roofing the house....

So we decided to take our cubs and head home, but first we had to pass through "the gauntlet" once we crossed the MN border..

And finally we got home. Here's the 70 I got from Paul.

...and a 73 we found along the way.
19359.jpg

The 70 got off the trailer and headed straight for the dirt...

But I told him he couldn't go out and play in his "Church Clothes". It's bed-time...

Art-
Those security guards don't bother you so much if you have a valid company ID card like me

Nice linup!

Art,
I had plenty of warning that you were headin this way! grin
I had 2 calls tellin me that you were headin north up 63!

ART - My Nephew works in that BIG rust brown building You were standing in front of by that sign. And when You were at Tom's place You were about 10 miles from My Folks. If you want a twin to that 70, Well, Dad has it now, He bought it new in '64 and I get it next! The elec. start K-161 was rebuilt twice and replace with a K-181 that was rebuilt at least once but it's His #2 mowing tractor behind His LoBoy 154. You said You went to Davenport but Why are all Your pictures of Moline & East Moline? ;-) Wife & I used to live about 2 miles from Deere Corp. office. Just north of Black Hawk College.

Charlie,

Kraig I ain't!<!-/quote-!>

I think KENtuckyKen was thinking you were me when he sent those pin removal tools! Tell you what, send one of 'em to me and we'll call it even.)

Art, good to see the 7hp lineup is almost complete. Now you just need a recoil 71 and 72 and an electric start 70. Just kidding, nice lineup. Do I get to drive the 70 next time I'm over?)

Tom P., nice collection you have there!!!

Denny-
Small world...eh? We were in Davenport for the ASAE tractor pulls. Guess I forgot to say that...

Charlie-
Looks like it's impossible for anyone to sneak into your town!

Charlie, does that wink mean the tool is in the mail or:

"Sure Kraig, when the above happens!")

The world needs a simple trench digger to pull with a 3-point hitch. There may be one but I live in a small world and haven't heard about one.
It would only have to make a 2 or 3 inch wide trench about 5 inches deep for small water pipe and underground electrical wire. Even if the dirt had to be raked out after cutting the trench it would be easier than having to dig it totally by hand. Buying or renting a trencher is expensive for small jobs. Anybody know about such a thing that's available or could be fabricated?
Bill
