Mark Broz,
Beige. A whole lot if not exactly like the background of this page.

Richard,, Thanks Much!
I'm going to go ahead an shoot it with what I got then.

Jim,
Yes, they bolt right on. They are easy to put on a 1X9 series with only 1 hole to drill or a bracket to make to hold the handle. Putting it on a narrow frame requires a little more work to find a place for mounting the valve and actuation handle.

IH used 3 different whites (901, 902, 935),and it depends on the model and or the S/N of the tractor as to what shade is correct. The "white" on a 70 should be IH 901 white, which has a green cast to it, and is only available by having it mixed at an auto paint store. The IH white available from TSC and other's including Case IH, is supposedly a match for IH 935 white, and it has a beige cast. The IH 902 white has a gray cast to it and it also is only available by having it mixed at an auto paint store. You can find more information here https://www.ihcubcadet.com/BobsPage/cubpaint.htm

JAMES - I agree with Kendell, both on measuring Your deck and the spindle shaft replacement. IH Deck model numbers always referred to the width of the cut they made unlike some other brands.

Since Your mower deck is on a 70 there's about a 99.44% chance it's a 38" deck. You didn't mention which spindle has the bad keyway but many years ago I had the center driven pulley loosen up on My 38" deck on My 72. It wallowed out the center bore of the pulley just a bit, wore off the OD of the spindle shaft a bit, and the keyway was TOAST! Being very BROKE at the time I sent it to one of My suppliers I dealt with when I was working at IH's FARMALL Plant, very good facbrication & machine shop. They welded the bad keyway up and turned it smooth, machined a new keyway on the other side of the shaft (Weld metal does NOT machine well!) I slid some brass shim stock inside the hub of the pulley, installed a new drive key, installed the hollow capscrew with the grease zerk on the head, thru the deck on the tractor and mowed My postage stamp sized yard, took about a half hour. The threads in the spindle shaft were distorted enough the capscrew had loosened and the pulley was wobbling already. I ended up replacing the spindle because of the bad threads. The slightly oversize pulley bore still caused wobbling and eventually I had to replace both the spindle and pulley. That deck has run over a Thousand hours with the new spindle & pulley and hasn't caused any problems since.

If You can get good used parts that should work, but if You can't I'd get new parts. The key isn't a Woodruff key, just straight 3/16" keystock if I remember right. Welding causes enough distortion of the shaft that the repair just doesn't last. You could weld the pulley to the shaft but I wouldn't, too much heat for the seals & bearings.

Back onto the other topic, the 73/1X6/1X7 models, They're still a NF tractor but the deep drawn one-piece steel fenders looked nice on them, expecially with the sharp looking ZIG-ZAG Grill. Not sure I care for the "Bird Bath Hood" however. Years ago when I worked for the Township Road Commissioner summers when I was in college He had a brand new '73 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup, The "LOADED" model, big 400-V-8, power everything! Drove it to work One block and back every day. One day We got rained out from working on the roads in the afternoon. We drove Our dump trucks & equip. back into the lot and a couple sparrows were splashing around in the water in the depressions in the hood of the Boss' pickup. From then on it got parked INSIDE the shop when We were gone.

ART - I know there's at least TWO of Us here that like that design!

I figured up about a year ago, something like 40% of all IH-built Cub Cadets have that grill design.

Dennis - Not wanting to be a SA or anything and certainly not wanting to side with Art BUT 40% of production and only TWO here who like the design says it all !!!
What does it say ????
UGLY !!!
Just kidding, honest.

The ZIG-ZAG is way better looking than the 70/100 grilles, that's for sure! And I just don't care for the 1x2/123 grille either.

Man, I want a 103. I know, doesn't exhist. I like the looks of a 73, but would like the 10hp motor in it. Be neat to have custom decals made and see how many people at shows try and claim they had one just like it back in the day.

Just what is it you want me to check on Charlie's paint and decal page????

Well, we all know the 1x8, 1x9 is the classic design..

And, we know there's at least ONE fan of the 1x50 grill..

Kendell, now that's a classic!

How many years ago was it that you first posted that?

Paul Bell,
You said "and is only available by having it mixed at an auto paint store." So you can support your sponsor by skipping the auto paint store. Or am I missing something?

Kraig:
According to a post from the Grump (the REAL one), I first posted it back in '01 (several hard drives ago). The Windows properties info on it has been lost......
BTW - we're into the age of diversity, so I'm glad we've got ALL those styles......

I also have found a Cub Dealer that has a good stock of all the paint. So you should know that "only the auto paint store" is not correct. And the auto industry does not support our tractors.

Okay, got back into town on Wednesday and got my o-rings and torsion spring for my hydraulic lift, put the right bends in the spring and put the lift back together! O-rings fit well but would be better if they were flat. I havent managed to get to Elmira spring works yet but will on Monday.

I am losing my nieghbors garage to work in as they have decided to sell the house. I have to get the 104 to at least a rolling chassis so I can bring it back across the street to my toolshed. Going to be tight but will be do-able.

Richard - You are "missing something"...
The page you pointed Paul at shows one color white in rattle cans and one in quarts. As he stated, there are three whites that IH used.. As far as automotive paint stores, he's correct about that also - if they don't have the formula, you can take a chip in, they scan it and deliver the color you need..nothing to do with the "auto industry"..

BTW - I'm sure that if Charlie or the other suppliers has the paint, they'll be glad to sell it..

The IH 901 and 902 white are only available now from an auto paint store (902 is also called IH Whitecap white). The 935 white is available from several sources. The paint that Cub Cadet sells is not the correct shade of white or yellow, for the older IH built Cub Cadets, even what they sell for "old model Cub Cadets". The paint they sell is more for the later CCC/MTD built Cub Cadets and not the IH built tractors. If you compare the Case IH Federal yellow (which is the correct yellow for the IH CC's) to the different P/N Cub Cadet yellows you will see there is a difference.

The IH 935 White listed on Charlies paint and decal page, is shown as Cub Cadet white, P/N 759-3264, and it also says it is for Serial Number 375939 (Feb 1971) to 756299 (the last S/N of 1986) The Model 70 was built from Aug 1963 to Aug 1965. 901 white was used from the first Cub Cadets to S/N 218009 (Nov 1967). 902 White was used from S/N 218010 to S/N 375938 (Feb 1971) when 935 white was first used.

You or anyone else are free to paint your tractor with whatever you want, but to tell someone that the "beige white"/Cub Cadet white/935 white is the correct color for the white on a model 70, is incorrect information.

Kendal I, Paul B: Your depth of knowledge and experience, not being missing, makes you both correct on all counts. Current Cub Cadet (and Case/IH) dealers can only supply IH White 935 and some later MTD/CCC shades. They do not have nor can they supply Harvester White 901 or White Cap White 902. These shades are required to be mixed by a good auto paint supplier/store. Actually, with a bit of depth of knowledge of my own, you can probably get these shades from a Navistar International dealer as Navistar 0901 and Navistar 0902 (also Navistar 0935 for IH White and Navistar 0483 for IH Federal Yellow 483). Navistar lists these in their paint codes.
