Couple of general questions-

Are the 3 bolts used in the mechanical pto 1/4-28? I can't see how it could be anything else but...

And would using nyloc 1/4-28 lock nuts be OK (assuming) and if not would stover nuts work alright if heat becomes a problem? I know there's a reason IH used two jam nuts but I've questioned things before so...

Wayne, I'd be concerned that the nylon would get soft from heat and no longer do it's job of locking the nut.

Did some trading today, sent the 1806 down the road, got a 128, 8" brinly plow, and more.

Here's the new to me 128, it was manufactured in August of 1974.

Listen to Kraig, he knows what he's talking about.
Nylocks will NOT work.

The thicker clutch disc are failing on people faster than the greedbay guys can sell'um!
Besides that, the are to thick to use the 3 spring disc on.
There's a reason IH made the clutch disk 3/16 inch.
Also, by using the thicker one, that adds more pressure on the 3 clutch release springs by compressing them to much and limiting the travel needed for long life of your PTO.

So to answer your question on availability, it ain't gonna happen on my end.
 
Maintenance. Or in the case of my neighbors 149, apparently, zero maintenance since it was born in 1973. This job started out as a head gasket/valve job and tuneup. The head gasket was blown but the valves only needed lapping and adjusting. I had to pull the engine to find the timing mark (which is not there) and I decided to pull the oil pan just to take a look. Looking at the bottom end I see that the governor gear is completely stripped. The other gears are in good shape. Anyone know what would cause this?

yep, that's the balance gear. Do I need to remove the upper gear also?
