Back to nice photos of cats.

Little miss titsle saying it's ok to take a pic as long as she gets in position first!
241636.jpg

And then the OLD ruler of the roost that was lost to old age a few years ago.

Maybe this pic is better. This is a stray I took a picture of when I visited Russia.

Charlie, beautiful cats! What was the name of the old departed one? Reminds me of my old cat Spree. I sure miss her.

Her name was Diamond.
This was taken about 10 minutes before we took her to town for the last time.
The wife got her when she was 6 weeks old and had a good friend for 14 years.

I'm pretty seriously bummed tonight:
241677.jpg

Miss Kitty's dry food hasn't been touched for about a week. I opened a can for her tonight (the frying pan is to keep the can in place). She may have moved on or something may have got her (she's not the free cat).
Whatever -- she was here long enough to make us realize that it probably wouldn't be that bad to have a cat around (haven't had one since Fluff died, and that was before digital cameras).
She either doesn't like the dry food or she's not coming back. If the canned food is still there in the morning I might have to go to the local shelter and see if they have anything that looks close to a yellow and white cat.

Frank, bummer! Was there any sign this morning that the food has been touched?

Charlie, we got Spree in the fall of 1989 when she was quite young. We had her just over 13 years. She developed some health issues and the last few months really put on the weight. Was a sad day when we had to take her for that ride to the vet in June 2003.

We had 3 that my kid found abandoned in a vacant lot, someone had just put them there to die.. He brought them home, took them to the vet and kept them. Unfortunately, 2 of them were blind, and one of the blind ones had a cleft palate. All of them grew up to be nice kitties..

Kraig: No sign of her. Easy come, easy go, I guess. I just hope she found a place she likes better and that something didn't get her. I know she left well fed and over a pound heavier than when she showed up.

Scott: A few years back, a couple here in town had something like 20 cats. They got run over quite frequently (hence the term "free cat"?). Sorry, bad joke. Anyway, I've heard their blindness was caused by inbreeding.

I know exactly where you guys are coming from on losing a good friend. I lost mine a few years back.

Frank C.,

Just a suggestion: try setting a box trap just off the porch. The reason I say off the porch is in case a skunk may come by.
This worked for me when my (my daughter's) cats were gone for a week. I had noticed the cat food had been moved around in the bowl, but it looked like none had been eaten. I'm not sure if they were the ones who were messing in the food or not. I set the trap in hope one would come by, and it did. I caught Lester about eleven o'clock at night. I had already gone to bed. My wife came and told me we had caught a cat, but she couldn't tell if it was Lester or not (he had lost weight). He was also very scared and almost wild acting. We brought him in and gave him some wet cat food and he gobbled it up. I said I would go and get the cage so he could stay in the basement. When I opened the front door, there stood Louie. I had to coax him in the door, for he was also scared and almost wild acting. As soon as he came close enough, I shut the door, grabbed him up, and gave him a big hug and broke down.

I told the wife they were never going to run loose again because I can't take any more torture like that. I guess i'm getting soft in my "older" age. Or, at least i'm easier to get attached to animals. Anyway, a cage/trap may work, it's worth a try.
That is why I built the cat "beach house" for them to live in. Hammocks will be installed soon.

It's very refreshing to hear all of these stories about saving animals or just helping in ways we can. I hate losing pets as much as the next guy but losing them is part of having them. I've grown softer as I've aged and when I hear any stories of abuse or neglect it really brings out the anger towards these types of people. On the other hand I really do appreciate people that take time and use their money to help needy animals of any species. These acts will never go unrewarded

This thread is really becoming a tear jerker.

Frank, sorry to hear that Miss Kitty still hasn't come around. Perhaps she's in heat, and if she is, she's probably " busy" with the guys. lol..she might return, but I certainly feel your disappointment. You gonna go looking for a kitty to adopt? I'm still hoping Miss kitty will return.

I'm keeping up on the news with everyone and will respond later..

Loving all the pics and heartfelt stories everyone is sharing of the furkids..present and those past..((sniff sniff)

Rodney, do you have stories/pics you'd like to share of your kitty who passed? just thought I'd mention that if youfeel up to sharing.

later everyone..

Cathleen, I have time for a shor story, my wife noticed the ivy plant getting messed up all the time and "Bigfoot" was getting blamed for it Well she caught us - I would get on one side of the pot and he would be on the other and I would poke my finger around the side and he would go after it for a while then I would poke it in the middle above his head and then he would pounce on my finger with the ivy in the middle and you can guess what the plant looked like after that. I will figure out how to send pics and send some. Thanks for asking. Rodney

Rodney.. thats a cute story BUT don't you know when you play like that with your kitty, your suppose to do it with artifical plants
241755.gif
I am sure the wife was plenty upset with the BOTH of you. Of course you were big about it and took the full blame for it, didnt ya? Thanks for sharing a quick story/memory in your kitty's memory.

Spree and Charlie's " Diamond" are very similar in coloring.

Charlie I sure got a kick out of how Miss Titsle had to pose oh so perfectly for the camera and oh gooddness she certainly displays an aura of regality and imagine she is treated as such. She certainly is a beauty. So, she isn't deaf? I had heard that usually white cats and dogs are deaf.

Wayne, I'm with you on giving out merits to those who take in or help in anyway they can the abandoned four leggeds they encounter along liefs path. It always seems to leave our hearts full, with good memories and sadness when that time comes for them to leave this journey we've shared with them. I can't imagine not having furkids around, or to hesitate helping out when the need arises.

Seems that Charlie and Frank starting up this little spot for everyone has been a good thing as those with kitties are sharing pics, stories, questions and opinions, and I hope those who have dogs, like Marty's little buddy that he shared a pic of, will share your pics and storys too, although it's been focused on kitties.I dont think anyone would mind the doggie tales. Seems the sharing has really brought out the softer/other side of your guys nature and its refreshing to experience that from you guys. Gosh you can read article after article about dogs rule, but I do believe that the felines are coming into their own and rating right up there with dogs now. They are so special and have amazing qualities that dogs dont have and you all know what I'm talking about. Can't snuggle up in bed with a dog like you can a little fur ball, now can you? I have two girls who sleep everynight with me, and once there were three. It took Stinker and Hannah and I a long while after the matriarch Baby Girl passed away 3+ years ago to get use to her not snuggling with us at bed time.

Loving all the pics. Marty, your little doggie pal that passed away was a very special little buddy of yours I could really feel their quirky personality through the photo . I'm really anxious to learn how Lester and Louie will take to their hammocks you are making for them.

Kraig, your pics of Tots and Selah are amazing. Tots whiskers are a work of art. And Selah, now, he is just a little ham. The pic of him in the polka dot case is so endearing. I keep going back to that one. It should be made into a poster. The outdoor shots are beautiful, and Tots in midair is sooooo cool.

so has anyone watched " My Cat From Hell" on Animal Planet. That is one cool show. I also bought the book by Jackson Galaxy, and it certainly isn't a read one would expect. Its not a boring cat book how to. Rather it talks about his introduction into cat tending and training and him being on drugs, getting off of drugs and lets say his language in the book is colorful. Actually it is ridled with curse words throughout which stunned me, as I watch the show, I wasn't expecting that, but I read the book in almost one sitting.

everyone have a great week-end

scott, hugs to you and your family for rescuing and adopting "lovely aka fuzzy, Manny and Snoffs. It is a crime to dump animals, we all know that, but people get away with it. I dont suppose it leave's them with a quilty conscious either. Its so sad, their blindness, caused by inbreeding which is the result of cats being dumped/feral. So sad. That is why Marlin and I brought to an end that legacy where we lived in the rental before we bought our house here. Also the feed/grain store burned down, which was a blessing in a way, atleast for the little four leggeds, as people didnt have a lame reason to dump them off there then.

People think they will fend on their own, and the feral cats that live in colonys manage with eating rodents, and wild berries and some grains, but they live a hard life and that is why there are organizations and even individual people who go out and feed colonies because they need better nutrition and even some area's, where there is money will get the females spayed then release them again. Pregnant mommies give birth to sick kitties due to poor nutrition and they die or end up very ill .

Our Hannah we found out was the result of inbreeding. When we took her in to be spayed, the vet discovered that fact, as her insides were a mess. They had an awful time getting her spayed, it was quite involved, and yet this is the vet that was working with us, as she knew we were taking in the mommies and kittens and adopting them out, and so even though it was a involved surgery, she still only charged us the $30.00 to spay Hannah. Poor little girl had to stay in a large carrying case/kennel for a week. She was so dear, she didnt make a deal out of it and seemed to know she had to rest and be good, and after her doctor visit she was ok, and got out of her jail. It certainly eased my nerves. I felt so badly for her, but she made it easier on everyone, even though she was the one who was dealing with the aftermath of someone being insensive enough to let their cats inbreed.

Thanks again for loving and tending to the sweet trio and giving them a forever home where they were loved..

Cathleen: (I can't believe you didn't pick up the nickname "Kitty" as my cousin Kathleen (may she rest in peace) did). You hit on something that I suspected - Miss Kitty may have gone "catting". She wasn't a playful kitty, but the last couple times she came to see me she would lay on the floor and roll back and forth, go and eat, roll some more, eat some more ... It's like "why won't my Cub Cadet start" - so many variables. Even in the short time she was here, Jeanne and I still imagine we hear "meow". Fortunately, our neighbors haven't mentioned if they've heard me going around "meowing".

Marty: Don't tell anyone, but the closest I came to setting a trap was the night I set a cot up in the Cubhouse and waited to see if she'd come in. She did. I never thought of a SKUNK!

Cathleen,

Thx... the Vet said the blindness was caused by feline herpes virus. they said since kittens are born with their eyes shut, it is because their eyes are still developing. When they were born, the mother shed the virus to the kittens. Fuzzy was shown below before and after we had her eyes enucleated and sewn shut. She is healthy, and gets around great, as we let her outside. she stays in the yard and chases birds and chipmunks. Her hearing is really good. She doesn't run, but does a series on leaps like Pepe LePew from the cartoons... Funny to watch..

Snoofs had the cleft palate, and he would get food in his sinuses and and then sneeze a whole lot of "Snoof Snot" (sorry, I'm trying to tell the story here, don't picture any of this), hence his name, Snoofs. He had a hard time with solid food, so we had to make "Glop", which is like kitten formula. He would go through cycles when he would get better, but this last time he got real bad.

Manny could see, but his eyelids were deformed a little so he couldn't close his eyes all the way easily. We had to give him artifical tears every couple of days. We had to put him down as he started to loose weight, and the vet found he was full of tumors inside. He was so nice to his siblings...

Since Fuzzy's 2 siblings passed, we got her a playmate from he SPCA for her to play with, an orange tabby named Jax. He's a blast, as he runs around he makes noises like Chewbacca the wookie...
