Hi all,

I was going to test the starter/generator using the link in the FAQ, but since I've had to move the main pulley further down the crank to keep it from freely spinning, the V-belt is misaligned, and gets thrown off the pulley shortly after the engine starting. So, I guess that rules that out, until I can find some way to fix the crank issue, aside from tearing the motor down and having it reground/cut.

I plan on cleaning all the wiring connections this coming week, as soon as I figure out a way to keep the V-belt on.
 
William - You could just get 5 more S/G pulleys and stack them up together and have them all welded together then weld the stacked five onto your original S/G pulley. Then that way you could just change grooves to keep it aligned where ever the crank pulley wonders off to.

OR you could put another crank in it before you get into more costly damage ...
 
Wm., maybe get another pully and fasten it to the back of the existing pully. That way you have one that is belt aligned and the other that is attached securly ??

No that <u>IS</u> all hooked up to the steering box.
Pretty sure it is a repaint.

Ref paint runs - that would be the same purists that re-chalk the inspection marks?? (were there any on Cubs?)

I would put it back together and test before buying a new pump.. I ran across a 1450 a few ago that came off a snowmobile trailer at speed. The hydro seemed OK (this was about a year later), but I swear the thing rode like a clown car from the flat spots on the rear tires. (and I go by the conventional wisdom you've already been given about towing them..).

I found the spell check problem was using the Chrome browser instead of Firefox - it is weird.
Too hot for any Cub time here - I just got the Yamaha out for a 50 mile round trip to Taco Bell, had to stop for traffic and 'bout had heatstroke (the 65 cu in air cooled motor sure does get warm)..
 
You went 25 miles for a Taco Bell ! ?? Isn't that like going to White Castle <font size="-2">for their 'famous' steam burgers?</font>
 
I had a thought: would the wheels from a 982 front end even fit the spindles on a 149 even if i upgraded them to one inch diameter (either machine a sleeve to fit over the existing 3/4" shaft or find bearings that will fit the wheels and the stock spindles...etc) or would the 7x8 wheel be too wide? if so, would i have to change the entire axle assy. or just figure out how to mount the 982 spindles?

If that NF is all stock, I wonder what the notches that we talked about are for?? The tie rod end misses it..

I could be wrong, but I think the pitman arm actually contacts the edge of the notch and can't go past it. If the spindle turned much further it would go over center and lock up.
