If you'll notice the lights on Art's tractor, they are angled so the light actually shines to the outside and not straight forward and down.
They angle about 15 degrees when aimed like that.
You can check yours by standing a piece of cardboard at 2 ft. in front of the tractor and swivel the lights to aim them in the direction you want, BTDT.

Metal fans apparently were used on all the first hydro Cub Cadets. The prototype Sunstrand "generic" garden tractor hydro that I have sports the same style. I have two or three right now either on Cub Cadets or on a shelf. Something tells me that a search of Grainger or McMaster Carr would probably turn up a source for the old style metal fans.

Charlie P. Remember how we used to align new headlights on cars and trucks? One would park the vehicle so many feet from the garage door, turn the lights on and adjust accordingly. Then if in doubt drive down the road at night to fine tune them. These just "pop-in" and go lights took away that fun.

All of my 125 and 105 Cub Cadets have had the metal fan. I have a 107 parts tractor that also had the metal fan.

Nick Q., good to see you post!

Terry B., great job on the K161 rebuild!

Frank, I suppose you could snap the rest of the blades off of the metal fan, clean up the hub so it's as balanced as possible, as in grind off any remaining bits of welding and fan blade. Then you could use the hub to anchor the forward side the plastic fan. The air pressure from the fan should push it into the hub.

Marlin,
Yes, I too remember adjusting headlights this way. Here we have state vehicle inspection and in those days if they couldn't find anything else wrong with your car so they could charge you something, it was always the headlights needing adjusting. I don't miss that!

Pulling out my hair this am. I now have three tractors apart at one time.

Marlin, the new "pop-in" and go lights can still be adjusted, open your hood and have a look at the back and top of the headlight assemblies...

NORM - I remember one late night trip in my pickup down thru pretty rural central IL & eastern IND.... about dark I had to hunt up a building and make some quick adjustments to the headlights on my truck. I'd done something to the frt end of my truck just a while before and you can not "eye-ball" adjust headlights with these newer vehicles.

KRAIG - I even have the special 5-sided recess screwdrive for adjusting those headlights!

DONALD - Try to keep at LEAST two CC's able to run at all times!

Well I do have a 147,149,100 and an O out in the shed that all will run with a good battery put in them. I haul all the bats out every winter on the tractors stored in the unheated shed. I had one appointment this morning and I have a free week to get some Cub tractor work done.

Don, open the file. Once you have the schematic you want, press the "Print Screen" button that should be on your keyboard. Then open MS Paint and click on the Edit tab at the top of the screen, then select Paste from the drop down menu. Then drag the image until the upper left corner is cropped to your liking. Then click in the lower right off of the selected area. Then drag the lower and right sides to crop the image. Once you have it cropped as desired, click the File tab at the top of the screen and select Save As... from the drop down menu and save the file with the name of your choosing. Be sure to save it in a location where you can find it. Hope that makes sense...

does the 147 have a lift helper spring? there is a large spring attached to the back left hand side of my tractor and i dont know what it does. for some reason if i tighten it it, it interfers with the hyrdostatic linkage. i looked underneath the tractor and it appears to go to the rockshaft but it doesnt look like the attachment bracket is orginal equipment. looks like its cobbled together. i dont know how its supposed to go together but i do know that it doesnt look right. anyone know if the electric lift tractors required a helper spring?

Andrew D.-

They didn't require it, but it's probably easier on the lift if there is one.

Can you take a picture of what you think is cobbled together so we can tell you if it is correct or not?

Andrew, here's a cutaway view of a narrow frame spring assist.

Question ? what would be better to put on an electrial connection , Noalox or dielectric silicone compound? Thanks

DONALD - What kind of elec connection? Something like inside a elec service panel? Or a splice in a trailer light harness? Or some wire on a CC?

All depends.
