In today's Facebook/social media world, forums have no place.

As much bitching as I see about the organization of this forum, any of the social media that I've used is almost impossible to search for anything more than 10 minutes old. The file structure on FB is pretty much what an Atari 800 or a Commodore 64 presented, so good luck with all of those FAQ pages and manuals. I belong to quite a few forums and all of the really active ones use Discus or similar forum programs with a layout similar in structure. Not as easy to use as FB? Spend ten minutes, read the intro and actually invest some time in learning the layout... Reading comprehension and short attention span? - Go back to FB.. Grrrrr.

Oops - off topic too far... I miss my 129..

Ethan,

We're still here.

It is kind of hard to stay on this forum constantly.

I have been gone since Friday to my parent's home to have Christmas with them.
We just can't be in every place all the time.

This has also been a bad week for me, and I haven't been in a mood to do anything at all.
Hopefully this coming week will be better, and I can get back to near normal.

I agree with Gerry, those chat sites are not for me.

A few years ago my daughter thought I needed to be on Facebook. About 2 days in, I had a bunch of jerks from high school NOW wanting to be my friend just so they could snoop on my life. That was enough for me. But like anything, it has its good and bad points.

I like this forum and its format.

The battery in my 100 finally gave up. I bought it new from Auto Zone. I knew it had been in it for a while. I could not see how old it was till I removed it from tractor. Lasted almost 9 years. I like to think the use of a Battery Tender Jr. contributed to its long life. This battery stayed in my 100 all the time. My shop is not climate controlled. I have (2) Battery Tenders that I rotate weekly between six Cub Cadets and (1) Battery Tender that I rotate between my (garage queens) car and truck.

They do their job.

Ethan - it' cyclical like a lot of hobbies/avocations. Get another generation started and interest picks up again. There's still a lot of Cubs available to rehabilitate. As long as Charlie and the other business's like his can continue to supply parts and the price of new equipment continues to rise , there'll be people discovering that old Cubs are not just something for show/restoration , but a viable, hard working alternative to the 2-4K$ 5 year and throw it away junk being sold today..

We need bumper stickers with a good pro Cub slogan that gets the word out!

What is the reason for Kohler to stop producing crankshafts for the 169/1650 tractors? I see there are a lot of other Kohlers with different spec numbers being produced available new.

Looks like the Kohler part number for the 169 is 45-142-25-S.

Is it possible to use a 45-142-22-S in replace? Looks like all you would have to do is cut 9/16" off the end of the crank, and it should work with very little difference except for the large radius by the lip seal. (Yeah, I'm sure it's stronger)

I know someone that has a JD 214 that they want to re-power with an 11 HP briggs. I don't have a spec number yet for that particular Kohler engine, but it appears to have the 45-142-22-S crank shaft.

Anyone know anything more about this?

Thanks,

Jim

Just checking in to see if this thing turned PURPLE? GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!

Jim - seems like you should be right about that crankshaft, but I'd like to hear from others on here.

Starter/Generator
I have a question on the starter/generator on my 129. It seem to be turning the engine over slower. I know it is cold and but it seem worse. I am not sure if there is a way to check it. I checked the voltage at the battery to see what the drop would be when I hit the starter. It went from about 12.5 to about 11.5 with the starter turning. I don't know if that means anything, but I thought I would ask. Having issues with it starting (never did before)and looking for possibilities.
Any comments appreciated

Earl-hows the condition of your battery???new, old???and do you keep a trickle charger on the battery when it’s not in use.i know that my 125 turns over very slowly for the first two or three try’s due to the fact I didn’t change oil grades for the cold weather we’ve been having in the northeast, but usually after the third try it speeds up and fires over.idk if this helps

Michael H., that is one beautiful 122!
