Help needed!! I have rebuilt the wire harness for my 125. Brand new battery fully charged. Checked timing 3x, installed new points, plug. It fires great. I completely drained fuel. When I bought this it was a bear to get started but once it did it ran awesome, even started right up when I got home to get it off trailer. Here is the major symptom. when turning over as soon as I crack the throttle the engine does not want to turn over. It will fire with ether but I do not like using that stuff until extreme circumstances. Compression seems good. My next thought is the ACR is stuck or the flyweights are stuck so that it is in full compression hence if you get it running it runs great. I am sorry for long post but have run out of ideas here.

I think if I were you I would remove the cam plate next to the points and have a look and see if there is a problem with the afc . I`am sure you can turn the engine over and see if its working or not. later Don T

thanks Don T. thank goodness for the manual section on here. i have been reading them all night. I am going to check valve clearances, then rebuild carb. After that maybe remove the head and look. I can have it running with ether but it stalls out. I do not like ether as I said so am going to try some other routes. Is there a specific vendor on here to get my rebuild (carb) kit from? Or is that a pointed ? that I should not ask.

Charlie at http://www.ccspecialties.org/ sells Carb kits ,and so do some other sponsors here . Might not hurt to have a look at valve adjustment . What kind of condition is your starter gen.It might need a rebuild ? ,do you have a spare one that you could switch out and see if that changes starting on your tractor. sometimes it can be simple thing that needs attention.

I was looking at a Diesel truck site and found some IH information (history) that you guys might want to have a look see. http://www.dieselpowermag.com/features/1001dp_international_harvester/index.html I had to have a look and did read the write up of IH history and found it was interesting read. Some pictures to look at also. Later Don T

Timothy-

Luther and Don both hit on what I was going to suggest. I'd definitely static time with a good points push rod and check the valve adjustments. The S/G might be weak as well.

My .02 worth for today...

Guys I think I have a valve stuck open (intake)? My parts machine engine you can see the valve under the plug moving up and down. This one does not budge. Does that sound like the issue?

Don T and Dennis F

Thanks for the input. I am leaning toward black. My engine is a replacement and black as well.

I am glad I asked here before starting. I was intending to paint the cooling fins. The engine I now have has cooling fins that have surface rust. I can wire brush and leave bare for better cooling. Would it be ok to use a manifold dressing on this area to keep the rust from coming back?

Thanks,

Frank

I am reassembling my Cub 125 after a complete teardown and repaint/powdercoat. I do not think the mower deck is original to my CC. I do not have a label or plate I can use to consider or use as a reference. The current deck has had much welding and metal replacement done by the PO. It seems to measure 50"

What width and model number of deck should I look for as a replacement?

Question for anyone who's made a hydro holding fixture - the diagram shows the large 2-1/2" hole is centered 1-1/2" from the end of the board. That only leaves 1/4" of material between the edge of the hole and the end of the board. Is there any reason not to use a block of wood long enough to leave more material there? Although it shouldn't really have much stress during use, I can see it breaking at that point when I'm shuffling it around in the garage when it's waiting to be used again.

An intake valve stuck open would certainly be an issue! You may want to try pulling your valve cover off, and turn the engine over by hand and watch the lifters and the springs to see if they move. If the valve springs stay compressed while you turn the motor over, then most likely the valve stems are stuck to the guides. The only way I've fixed that is to pull the head and stuck valves and clean them well, or replace them. Probably wouldnt hurt to clean the valve guides.

I don`t see where it says what width board to use !

Greg,

I just finished mine & I noticed that also. It can be any length from the hole, doesn't matter. I made mine about two inches or so from the edge of hole. In fact, longer is better, makes it more stable until it starts to take up room on your workbench. Here's a pic of mine made from a scrap of wood. That sketch needs to be re-done.

You need at least a 2 x 6. The wider it is the more stable it will be. 2 x 8 would be even better.

Want it to be real stable ? ? Drill the holes in the top of your work bench !

Alright I got a 100 yesterday found one that is restorable. Need a few parts the engine plate has been painted over, what is the best thing to use to clean it and not mess up ID plate.

I think charlie can help you with that ID plate.I think I read were you send him the numbers off your old plate and he can supply a new stamped plate. He might be looking at this and set me straight on this. Later Don T

Joe L,
Try using soft scrub and a fine/soft toothbush, use lots of warm water and go easy on it! If that don't work CALL CHARLIE!!!
