Ed C.

Your input shaft is trashed....no other way around it...like others have said DO NOT REUSE IT.

The top shaft is the same in all of the hydros.....find a good used hydro (ported or not) and swap the front section from yours (the part with the top ports and valve blocking) onto it. Replace the necessary gaskets and drive line parts.

OR.......

Find a new ported hydro and bolt it on (save the busted one, your can sell it to someone willing to swap the front plates).

The service manual details a hydro swap....it's not too hard and well within the abilities of a shade tree Cub mechanic.

Ron's suggestions about checking the remaining drive line parts and engine mounts are an excellent idea as well.

IF you just slap it back together with a new coupler it WILL go out again and is likely to do just as much damage , if not more.....usually the wrap up the wiring harness AND trash the hyd. lines...not cool, and not worth the risk..........not to mention your nuts are sitting right over that time bomb!!!!!

Thanks for all the input, I guess I have some thinking to do and reading.

Charlie,

All that plumbing and hydro and no power steering?

Wow, that's some hydraulics Charlie!!
I have both pumps in the garage, I'll pull out and pic tomorrow. Ethan, if you have the original factory offered hydraulic lift, it has its own pump and such separate of the hydro trans. Yes, later in the wide frame era the lift used the trans hydro pump. I'm actually considering using a ported pump on my 105 when it's done for the lift, but we'll see. Something to be said about too many irons in the fire...
Ed, wow! That's terrible what happened to your 1650. Good luck on the repair, it won't be that bad to do. Pull the fenders off and gain a better perspective.

I agree with Nic on no power steering! But it does bode well for my oddball hydraulic lift I'm thinking of.

Ed C - well, with Mike F's offer of a ported pump I now have to say replacing the pump with his is the right fix at the right price.

(Boy everyone sure shot me down for suggesting it might still be worth trying to just install a new coupler. Guess I'll know next time I see this, since this was the first I've seen it)

Harry B. I wasn't trying to upset you with my "Common sense" remark. As Matt G. stated the end of the shaft has been compromised immensely therefore rendering it suspect to failure down he road. The roll pin failed due to years of stress and perhaps an "invisible to the naked eye" stress crack when formed. That type of thing happens. If all the shafts from the ported to non ported are the same then I really suggest getting another shaft and rebuilding the pump. Also.... that big price you posted is purchasing through Cub Cadet. Without getting into trouble.... price the same shaft at a Danfoss Power Solutions Service Center or Distributor. You'll probably be amazed at the Cub Cadet markup. Same as buying the shaft at a Green Dealer. For MANY years the Cub Cadet shaft was used on other brands of garden tractors as their standard shaft.

Ed C. Mike Frade has a pump that you can have. Here is a little "advice." Shipping the whole pump is pricey. BTDT.... Sooo.... I'd offer to pay Mike something if he's willing to send you just the shaft. Mike F. can then fleabay the other parts for a couple of dollars to find homes for the other parts.

David S. As Harry B. stated.... HANG onto those extra pumps.... 2014 marked the end of 15U production. The internals are still being made for the other series of 15 pumps. The externals will one day be getting harder to find. I am getting a whole Cub Cadet rearend from a gentleman with a hardly used 15U for $40.00. Trunion is in beautiful condition. Fella long scrapped the Cub Cadet because he got it so cheap.

Maybe I should start collecting some used 15Us for parts when necessary to help others out. I appreciate input with this.

Harry B. Please don't feel bad. You were just doing the appropriate thing by trying to save someone from having to spend some money. Believe me... I'd be thinking the same thing if it happened to me.

Earl F. Glad to hear your Cub Cadet is up and running.

Ethan K. While I don't baby my 125 and work it. I still take care of it. The 15U is one extremely "Little Tank" and you'll have a hard time destroying it unless you really want to. The 4130 International Harvester skid loader that Dave Kamp bought last fall from a friend of mine has a 15 Series pump in it. They are easily able for over 5,000 hours of use.

Ethan, here's a ported pump. Can see the outlets just under the relief valves. The non ported is still on the 125 rear axle and I can't pull it out right now. But hope this helps.
