For those of you within driving distance to Columbus, OH, there is a 129 that looks excellent and the price is right. I found it on Craigslist.org Cincinnati, OH. It is actually located at Hebron. Take a look, hopefully a forum member can get this one.

I've got a 129 with a no start problem can some body post a wiring diagram please. I think it is in the switches for the safty circit.

Jim Larson here are a few pictures. Tried to get a good photo of the pully. I imagined that you wanted to see if the pully was too far forward. Not easy getting a good photo, but I did shine a light and look behind the pully and see it's pretty close to a bolt head that is supporting the bracket for the starter/gen(its about 1/8" away from the head of the bolt) so it can't go back any more. I also included a photo of the bearing to show its position on the shaft.

Hi,
New to this site. I have a model 70 with a K161S motor, circa. 1963. I need a history lesson. The motor blew up about 10 years ago. Now rebuilding it. It has a 2 7/8 bore and a 2 3/4 stroke. Std stroke on a 161 is 2 1/2. Did they try out this stroke in the earlier years before deciding on the 2 1/2?
 
Does anyone have any thoughts on whether we should be using non-detergent or detergent oils in our K series engines?
 
Greg: I run IH 10w oil in the winter and IH 30W during the summer time in my tractors. I have no trouble with oil.
 
Allen S, yea the "brake return spring" was among the first items added to the "fix list".

Greg P., My 128 has used 30W Non-Detergent oil since new with no problems.
 
Well, after throwing piles of snow since I got my QA42, I was really impressed...until I helped my dad hook up a 38" blower on his 20 horsepower gravely. That was impressive...I hate to have anyone show my 149 up, but that gravely must have thrown the white stuff 20 yards. That is until a bearing went out and it started throwing sparks out the chute 2 minutes later. He used to have a Cub 147 but my brother and I cost him a lot of money with that thing. He kind of swore off Cubbies and got a gravely a few years back. After seeing my 149 and my O, I think he remembers the good ole days though. LOL, Nick
 
Dean: Thank Roland - I just dug it out of the Archives. This SEARCH function is a very time consuming process. I usually go by Keyword, and Whole Words Only. Then I end up doing a lot of extra-curricular reading and looking at a lot of old pictures! For instance:

I picked up my first Cub. A 104. The deck is shot, and it could used tires, especially the front. But it runs good.

Good news! I'm back home from my medical sojourn in North Carolina, where I was being treated for a brain tumor, but so far the medical news is good. I will have to undergo periodic MRIs and take a monthly course of oral Chemo for the next year or so, but I'm intact and the prognosis looks pretty good, as far as these things go.

I've started back to work, and hope to get back in the garage soon.

JOSEPH A. - About Your Model 70 with K161 Kohler. A prior owner of Your 70 sometime in the last 46 years has replaced the stock K161 with a Kohler K181 short block or long block engine. They dd You a HUGE favor! A complete engine would have come with the blower housing complete with it's own serial number and spec number. This was pretty common on these lower HP tractors back when they were newer. Most IH dealers had a complete Kohler engine sitting on the parts counter on display.
My CC 70 Dad bought brand new in '65, and every three years the engine got rebuilt mowing two farmsteads every week, After two rebuilds the complete K181 was installed. The extra 1/4 in. of stroke and discplacement makes the K181 noticably more powerful than the K161. My 72 I bought in 1981 had a 2-3 yr old complete K181 in it also.
KOHLER actually made two versions of the K161, early engines had 2-7/8" bore and later engines had 2-15/16" but all had 2-1/2" stroke. K181's were all 2-15/16" bore and 2=3/4" stroke. If Your engine really has a 2-7/8" bore someone replaced the stock K161 crankshaft with the K181 version, They go right in with the proper connecting rod, wrist pin, piston, etc.

MATT S. - On Your painted coupler, I actually did some rework to the coupler I used on My K321 in My 72, I drilled the screws for the grass screen oversize & deeper than stock so I could use flatwashers under the heads of the capscrews I used in place of the OEM machne screws, plus I would use flatwashers under all four the the capscrews to attach the driver to that coupler. One thing You have to be REAL careful of when painting parts before reassembly is that the paint adds thickness to the metal and it can wear away. I wouldn't paint any machined surfaces because it throws the assembly out of design tolerances. I've fought that battle enough times at the companies I've worked at. Kohler & IHC painted engines after assembly for this and other reasons.
