I have a 1450 cub. When I try to start it It wont start and it seems like I lose all battery power. Could this be a bad ground. It is finally warming up here so I can work on it Thanks

Don T and all..
Not sure what part of the plug you're reading, but what you should be looking at is the porcelain insulator, not the threads or side electrode. The picture posted is kinda hard to read, but the porcelain looks pure white, which with 23 hours on it would make me a little nervous (too lean). Here's a good article on reading plugs, I think written by (or copied from) Gorden Jennings, one of the best motorcycle Tech writers around..

Myron: As I sit here, Hank Will's "Bible" in my lap, I see you beat me to giving Allen"s question an answer. Ya done good!
Uh, Oh. As I read more, I see that the 205 Kind Code designates "lawn tractor". I won't mention this -- my sister passes her Grit Magazine on to me.

Ron, it sounds simple to me, sounds like you have a dead battery! give it an over night charge and see what happens, is it a tractor that you normaly run, is it stored in a warm place or outside?

Really quick ? I have a 122 that I am working on the clutch , the shaft is almost wore in half where the throw out bearing rides ,both springs broke , and someone stuck lock washers in to get more pressure ? I have a 73 with the clutch will these parts interchange ? Thanks for any help !

Thank you ! It had to be really quick ,,, its amazing some of the looks I get when I run out of the garage right to the computer

Id be homeless if I didnt have more junk than she can carry to the curb lol

Paul B: If the shoe fits, I guess you will just have to wear it!

Frank C: Thanks, and the Kind code for IH Lawn Tractors is 035 by-the-way...

Allen F., seems to me you could cut your running/looks down by adding a dedicated cub computer in your garage. Ohh yea, ya can never have enough junk/stuff/parts/goin to use that someday stuff!

Chris M: As the third digit of the model number is an odd number it tells you that those models were Hydrostatic. (this rule does not apply to the 7 hp models and the 82 and later series).

Prior to the lone 1980 B&S 16 hp IH Model 582, the highest hp for a Cub Cadet gear drive was a 12 HP.

got a question, after i painted my drive line coupler i noticed that two of the bolts that mount to the clutch plate had lock washers and flat washers, while the other two had just lock washers, is this supposed to be like this or not?

also could someone post pics of the bar that runs the width of the 70/100 hood mine is missing and i will be fabing one up here pretty soon

......the famous and renowned "Louisville Legend".......

I'd agree with that! Paul has always impresed me with his knowledge of the IH history and his library of IH documents also! Lastly, his passion for these great machines is second to none. So YES, a Louisville Legend to be sure!

MYRON - Highest HP gear drive Cub Cadet was made by MTD, Model 1806. I have the brochure showing they made the 1806 3-speed IH rearend with creeper, 1810, Hydro w/manual lift; 1811 hydro w/Hyd. lift; 1812 hydro w/hyd. lift & aux. remotes. And I think the other models were 1772, 1872, & 2072, would have been around 1987 or so. There were some smaller tractors too but I can't remember the numbers right off hand. I'm just going by the brochure because I have NEVER seen an 1806, probably REALLY rare.

KENDELL - Seems like any time Cubbers start talking engine tuning GORDON JENNINGS name comes up. He wrote some REALLY awesome tech articles for CYCLE Mag. back in the 70's. Ones I expecially remember were on all types of bearings, and pistons & piston rings, tuned exh. pipes. His writings should be required reading for ANYONE before opening the hood of a car/truck/tractor. There's been some really good technical writers about engine theory but His name always comes up to the top of the list.
Did You know piston rings revolve around the piston in the grooves about ONE revolution per thousand crankshaft revolutions?

only had that one model above 12 HP. Yes, you are correct, CCC and later MTD/CC put forth all kinds of combinations from the mid 80's to the mid 90's trying to figure out what would sell in the market at the time. Too numerous for me to try to keep up with.

Matt This is the tractor I always run. It ran a few weeks ago. I had the charger on it and the battery is charged. The battery is not that old. ?Got it last year sometime. It sits in the garage which is not heated but it has always started. When I turn the key to start it I put a meter on it and the batt side of the solinod goes dead. That is why I thought it might be ground. I worked in IH trucks for 39 yrs Did a lot of electical but this has me stumped.
