Cory, if I were to try to get out the broken head bolt. I would bolt the head back on and use a transfer punch to find the center of the broken bolt. Then drill a hole down through and apply some PB Blaster. Resist the urgue to use an easy out. They will brake and are VERY nasty to get out. If you have access to a Tig Welder you can weld a nut onto the broken bolt and try with a wrench. Don't wait for the nut to cool down before you try with the wrench though.

David G,
I would sand the fiberglas with 220g or finer wet-or-dry paper to remove the shine. Once it's dull all over, prime and paint like the metal.

Rick B,

Nice pictures of your family's Original. Life was good back then in rural America and IH was doing well. Good luck in finding your Original.

That is quite a hitch set up with those 4 Cubbies tied together. I wonder how they steered them and controlled the speed with those ropes? Can't tell if they are hydros or gear drives. I'm sure that the local IH dealer provided the Cub power. Our family's dealership use to provide a Cub Cadet for my home town's floats in local parades on occasion as well.

We got 3" of fresh snow overnight here in south central Kansas so got about 2 hours of good seat time early this morning with the 149 and front mounted blade.

Don T:
I've used a boat repair epoxy called Marine-Tex for gluing pads - it takes a little longer to set, but I've never had a problem with the pads coming off.. I clamp the pads with a small C-clamp while the epoxy sets...

David G. i worked at Reinforced plastics <fiberglass plant> for 22 yrs and you can paint over glass but you had better wash it down to remove any wax(Wax remover) . or the paint will peel even if primed.

Kendell ,thanks i will try to find it around here to glue my brake pads.I know nascar uses a panel glue but i don`t know what brand to look for. thanks Don T

DON T. - Nascar uses a "Panel Glue" on panels? or brake pads?

Disc brake pads on Cubbies don't see a whole lot of USE let alone abuse....I would think any two-part epoxy would hold them on. Heck, even Elmer's Carpenters glue would probably work.

Dennis Frisk (Dfrisk). yes they have a glue on the market now that when you repair a body panel ,you can glue a new section in and its strong. Comes in a tube like caulking.I had some from a body guy and used it on the pto brake on my 129.But he has moved away from my area now. Later Don T

quick question. when separating the drive line from transmission. what is the best way to do it on an original. take the 4 bolts out of the synthetic disk they were stuck on how to seperate the two lines.they seem to be wedged together pretty firmly. any feedback would help. thanks

Just wanted to say thanks to Todd. I successfully removed the head bolt out with just a pair of vise grips and some Good Ol' WD-40. It only took about 5 mins. tops.

Look at the FAQ's above, then #6.

The info you are looking for is in the Kohler Manual.

need some help
just hooked up a QA42A snowthrower to my 1450 and it seemed really tight to turn even a the auger. The snowthrower seemed to have a little growl how much of this is normal. any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thanks

We stardet the heavy overhaul on the original today. Went pretty smooth and tidy. Picutres to come shortly.

Josh D,

With the drive belt removed, your snowthrower drive terrain should be able to be rotated fairly easy by hand. The auger should spin freely with the auger chain removed. If it doesn't your auger bearings are possibly going bad. If your chain is rusty, and stiff, coat it good with oil or replace it. Check the gearbox, univeral joints and chain tensoner bearings to make sure they spin easily. Grease the two bearings on the chain drive tensioner good and the two universal joints. The gearbox is filled with grease and don't require much attention unless you determine that it is the source of your trouble.

One other thing, on a 1450, the electic clutch has a brake so if your trying to spin the auger with the engine off and the belt on, it will be difficult to turn by hand.

Main breakdown of the "o" went like this

This is the steering wheel remover tool that we rigged up. Lots of rust remover, and a few swings of the hammer popped it right off.

can anyone give me the dimensions for the 70/100 headlight panel?

Also is there a spray can color that matches the white on the 100?

111523.jpg

this is the "curl" by the way it measures 1/4"
111524.jpg

the dimention in between the headlight holes is 2 5/8". The bottom dimention on the left below the headlight hole is 13/16" to the bottom of the curl both sides.Ignore the 1/2" in the bottom left corner!!any other questions about the dimentions just ask my writing and spelling leaves something to be desired!!!

Now this is a headlight panel for a 123 If it is the same for a 70/100 i dont know.hopefully someone knows! Also someone may have another take on the dimentions!hope this helps

Want to give everybody a update on my model 70 tractor. I checked everything from the kill switch to the new switch. I finally got fed up with it and decided to clean all the metal contact points on the voltage regulator and battery termal. yes very stupid of me not to do this in the first place. Would have saved my some of the head ache. After cleaning I checked all the wires and still had no power to the starter and that is when I decided to check those wires and clean them after taking apart I realized that my start was bad the one termal would just spin free. What a bummer had it fixed at a small fortune. just need to clean the tractor of and try to get it to run on gas have it starting on starting fluid but then it dies. I'm cleaning the carb and getting a new fuel shut off valve for it I hope after that it will run Christmas is getting to close and I want it for a present. if anybody has any ideas. why it will not run on gas I will take um and try them. Yes there is gas to the carb but not much. Shut off valve has a filter that clogged. Thanks.
