It lives! Finally found time to work on my new-to-me 109/129 to get it running. As you may recall, I got this 109 from a neighbor and it has a 12hp replacement engine in it. I can't say for certain what the final problem was, but along the way I replaced the ignition switch, coil, plug, condenser, points, rebuilt the carb, and just last night, replaced the head gasket and flattened the head. The head and top of block looked good, no carbon build-up to speak of. Cylinder wall nice and smooth and standard size piston. What probably made the biggest difference is I static-timed the engine rather than setting the points at .020 and calling it good. Previously, the engine was hard to start and ran hot.
The 109 is being put on snow duty as my 1811 has blown the rear oil seal, again. Had a little trouble with the lift rod, and ended up using chain. The rod that works on the 1811 is too large in diameter to fit in the hole in the lift bracket on the 109. The chain is a temporary solution, but works pretty good so far.
Had a few tense moments plowing snow, the hydro control is on the right on my 1811 and on the left on the 109. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks! Sorry no action shots, no one home to take a picture as I worked.
Oh yeah, no hood because the hinge is all buggered up, need to work on that as well. And... need screws for the tunnel cover.
