ART - Thank's for posting the pic's of your 71. The hood we're painting had more paint & less rust than your 71's but the metal was in MUCH worse shape. Dents, holes, etc. Also the tractor itself is in much worse shape cosmetically.
We don't actually have any "Before pic's", unless I show you pic's of it in the lineup of ALL Dad's tractors from June 1968... The 70's the one WITHOUT duals in that pic, others are the Super H, M, & 450 Farmall. I think I also have a pic of it from about '69 or '70 with it's DUAL Exhaust on the little K161. I got a pair of shiny new VW Beetle exhaust tips for Christmas or my B-day, and Dad brazed together a "TEE" and we put "DUALS" of another kind on it. I did have a 3 ft long straight pipe on it for a while with a rain cap but the tiny Kohler couldn't keep the cap open. I had the "M&W Add-Pow'r PISTONS" decals from the M's last rebuild on the hood of the 70 in that pic' but since it really didn't have the piston(s?) it didn't help with the rain cap.
ALSO, We kinda "Borrowed" your paint scheme for Our blade. The brackets & stuff are all our NON-OEM IH 901 white, but the blade itself & the trip springs are black epoxy. Kinda odd, the blade must have sat outside for 20-30 yrs, some of the pivot brackets are REALLY pitted, but the back of the blade itself actually still had some paint. The epoxy primer/sealer actually feels slippery more so than the Slip Plate paint I've used. Plus it's about five times tougher.
TRISTAN - I LUV my PSD, the engine option has paid for itself several times over.... But it doen't pay to buy a diesel today unless you drive 50,000 to 100,000 miles/year. Or if you tow heavy 50% or more of the time over 30,000 miles/yr.
When I figured out my cost of ownership before I bought my PSD, I didn't figure it would get as good of MPG as It does, also maintenance has cost less, and the 351 Windsor I'd have gotten instead I find would have gotten LESS MPG, Wyatt's old '90 F-250 was exactly what I'd have gotten and he got around 10-11 MPG.
When I got my truck, #2 diesel was about $0.90/gallon, A fill-up of both tanks (40+ gal.) was around $40. Now filling ONE tank is about $50. Glad I'm not in the market for a new truck!
